Man, it’s been a while.
Apologies for the lack of posts these past months. When this Substack was more or less in full swing last year, I just had less things going on, and it was much easier to sit down to type and post drawings. Now, no excuses other than “I’m busy”. Busy with freelance work, conventions, and family life. Since the beginning of the year, there’s been inking a Star Wars series for Dark Horse, illustrations and coloring for O’Reilly Media, convention trips, and taking kids to school and sporting events, and much much more. After getting up early, and working all day, I just haven’t had it in me to post. My apologies.
Anyway, I’m trying to decide if I should post daily even if it's a small quickie drawing, or a more thought out weekly post. Don’t know. I think some people don’t want a barrage of daily emails, but in my opinion if I don’t post daily, I’ll fall off the wagon, and I need that discipline of posting. Just thinking out loud here. If you have thoughts about daily, weekly, whatever, please leave them below.
So here's a recent drawing I did. It started from a James Cagney photo, and it went from there. Nothing unique in my approach. I was just exercising the digital ink muscles.
Here are some pages from the first and second issue of Star Wars Hyperspace Stories: Codebreaker. Pencils by Marc Yarza with writer Ethan Sacks. The first two issues are currently on sale now, so check your local comic shops.
I’m not a rabid Star Wars fan, but more of a casual fan. I’ve seen all the films and some of the TV series, but certainly working on Star Wars is fun. OK. Drawing/Inking TIE fighters and Star Destroyers isn’t always “fun”, but you get the idea. It’s Star Wars!
On the convention front, I’ll be at FanExpo Boston. My first time to this show, but it’s run by the FanExpo folks so it should be a good show.
Next up are:
ETown Con - August 23, 2025
Ashville Con - September 20, 2025
New York Comic Con - October 09 - 12, 2025
Baltimore Comic Con - October 17-19, 2025
Grand Rapids Comic Con - November 14-16, 2025
If you are in the area of any of these shows, please drop by and say hi.
Ok, back to work!
Thanks for your support (and patience)
