Since the beginning of this year, it feels like things have been nonstop. Juggling new motherhood, running Seen Library, developing my collection with ERA, working with my social media clients and doing content creation… all while trying to spend time with my loved ones, move my body and do mundane things like, I don’t know, eat and shower, has been a lot. Even typing all that out makes me realize that I should probably revisit my priorities… Thankfully, though, summer is around the corner and with that, a slower pace on the horizon, which I’m going to do my best to welcome. I’m normally the type to see an empty calendar and want to schedule things until it’s full, but I want to — and need to — just sit in the slowness. We’ll see how I do… Anyway, these are the things I’ve been into the past month:
The public library. To get work done without (baby) distractions, I’ve often headed to a local coffee shop but lately I’ve been going to the library. I get to check out books for my baby girl and have a quiet place to work with free wifi — all without having to buy a $10 latte.
Using a book light. I was debating whether to get an e-reader (I’ve heard great things about the Kobo and even went so far as to pick out a case for it) but ultimately decided I couldn’t deal with learning how to use a new electronic device and had way too many physical books on my TBR pile to get through. I also just really, really love the physical feeling of flipping the pages of a book and underlining my favorite excerpts and decided to at least try out a book light to see if it was doable with a baby co-sleeping in our bed. It’s been so long since I’ve used one — the last time being in elementary school, reading Harry Potter way past my bedtime under the covers. Since getting it, though, I’ve finished two books, getting me out of my reading slump. It’s also been so nice picking up a book again instead of resorting to scrolling in the dark while my baby sleeps next to me.
Which brings me to Yesteryear and The Correspondent, the two books that got me out of my slump and that I both enjoyed.
BEEF Season 2 and Ramy Youssef: In Love are the only things I’ve watched on TV in the past few months (which says a lot).
A good black sandal. This has been such a staple in my spring / summer outfits, whether it’s heeled like the one I wore here or flat and simple like the one I wore here. In a moment of weakness, I splurged on a Chanel thong sandal (crazy, I know) but in hindsight, any of these would have been just as good: This minimal pair (which I have and love), this style in square toe croc or any of these secondhand designer options (I have the secondhand Row heeled sandals saved on my wishlist).
This tee that has taken over the spot for my most worn t-shirt. I was worried about it being more slim fitting than my other tees, but it’s surprisingly flattering and so comfy. I sized up and wear a Medium! If form fitting isn’t your thing (I get it), I love this one — it’s my second most worn that I have in black and white.
