This article is Part 9 of Before COVID-19: The SARS Files, an eleven-part series presenting Jon’s writings on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) from June 2003.

By the time Jon wrote this article, the most intense phase of the SARS news cycle had begun to recede. Rather than continuing to follow each day’s headlines, he turned his attention to the broader questions that remained after the initial crisis had passed.

In today’s installment, Jon examines the toxic drugs used to treat a Canadian man in his 50s who was diagnosed with SARS. His starting point is a case report published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).

WHAT [TOXIC DRUGS] ARE THEY REALLY GIVING SARS PATIENTS?

JULY 7[,2003]. As you know, if you are a reader of this site, I have been making much noise about the lack of information on how SARS has been treated [with pharmaceutical drugs].

Statements out of Hong Kong indicated that patients received highly toxic Ribavirin (pernicious anemia is an adverse effect) and steroids (can be destructive to hormone balance and can suppress natural immune response). [1]

Therefore, what we are told is SARS can in some cases easily be, in reality, the devastating and even lethal effects of these drugs.

Well, now I have a [CDC] report on a Canadian patient […]

Such reports are always sketchy, but we can see enough here to grasp the very serious problems this patient faced from his MEDICAL TREATMENT. Forget about “SARS.”
