The Christian End Times groups in the US who were rooting for Armageddon

Toward the end of what Jon would later describe as the first phase of his career as an investigative journalist—roughly 1982 to 1987, a period that included his LA Weekly years—he wrote an investigative story about what he called “the Christian End Times groups in the US who were rooting for Armageddon.” The article was published in LA Weekly in early 1987.

I have not yet located the exact title or a copy of the original article now located a copy of the original article. A digitized version is available through the Los Angeles Public Library, but access is currently limited to computers at the Central Library or an LAPL branch.

The recording that follows, from May 1987, is one of the earliest radio appearances by Jon that I have located. Jon is in the KPFK studio with Harlan Ellison, then host of Mike Hodel’s Hour 25, discussing the investigation behind the article—and where that investigation had taken him.
