When I started my first 100-miler, the 2018 High Lonesome 100, I didn’t really believe I could complete it. My internal monologue constantly reminded me I was not strong enough. I stuffed the voice as deep as possible. But, at multiple times during the race, it would pop out and overwhelm its restraints. At mile 76, I collapsed onto the ground in a heap of self loathing. My crew never let me quit…
On Friday September 5, 2025, I ran the Dark Divide 100 in Randle, WA in it’s fifth year. It’s a beautiful, remote, and wild 100 miler in the grand Cascadian tradition. I finished in 39:20:59.
It’s my first time being published, and I’m proud of it. I am shivering uncontrollably in the passenger seat of a rental car. Both my hands are gripping a paper cup of lukewarm chili, but I’m not eating it. My legs are cramping every 30 seconds, sending painful aches through my body. My wife, Miranda, is watching me, worry and concern covering her face. The car is idling; the heat blasting. I know…
On Friday May 16, 2025, I ran the Utah 115 in Kanab, UT in it’s inaugural year. And although I can never look at sand the same, I finished it for my sixth official 100-mile finish in 38:27:21 ( strava or it didn’t happen ). I also recorded a recap on the Running With Problems podcast , where I got pretty emotional towards the end.
I’m trying to start writing semi-weekly, focusing on training logs. In these, I’d like to talk about my week’s training, and any interesting thoughts I had during said training. These are supposed to be far more raw than my usual writing, mere musings and emotions sans editing. 10 Days of Training in Between 100s I finished San Diego 100 four weeks ago. I rested for 10 days after the race, then…
On Friday June 7, 2024, I ran the San Diego 100 Mile Endurance Race for my first time. It would be my fourth official 100-mile finish and in my opinion, my best result at the distance so far, finishing in 30th place in 26:40 ( splits and strava ).
On Saturday May 4, 2024, the 11th running of Niwot’s Challenge commenced. I ran it for the 6th consecutive year and accomplished my goal, which was to run a fast Burn loop, but not to complete the race.
I’ve been writing this year-end recap in long-form blog style since 2020. In 2020 , I set goals to run consistently all year and accomplished those despite the pandemic and my drinking habits. In 2021 , I had to overcome significant emotional hardship to enjoy my first year back in racing after the pandemic. In 2022 , I focused nearly exclusively on running and had my best year of consistent…
This past Saturday June 17, 2023, I ran the second edition of the Ring the Springs 100 miler , hosted by Aravaipa Running. Miranda and I did a recap podcast on this race, so check that out on your local podcast app.
I’ve been making Paella since Valentine’s Day in 2021. Since then, I’ve honed my skills and recipe. A bunch of friends have asked for the recipe, so here it is. This recipe is very me. I like to do a lot of fusion in my paella. I suggest starting standard and branching out. Paella is amazing because you can put anything in it and it’ll probably taste amazing.
