Country Miles and Fish on Bicycles

I’m getting better at understanding maps, checking general directions of travel and then finding our accommodation. Obviously, we have full names of campsites or hotels + full addresses, postcodes and phone numbers, but the postcodes guidance is not 100% accurate.

Last night the post code took us to somebody’s house but looking around I spotted our accommodation not far away. This evening we got to the post code which was outside a couple of houses but the guest house was further down the road. I asked dad to double check Google Maps and work from its guidance rather than riding around trying to work out where it was. I think I get enough exercise as it is.

But sometimes, when you’re in the country side extra walks are just INEVITABLE. Especially if you want to eat. Take this evening. Dad and I walked to what we believed was going to be an inn where we could have some dinner. When we got there it looked closed. I said ‘maybe we need to go around to the back, away from the roadside.’ So we did. However all we found was a nice man, his wife, two kids and a very excitable dog. The man said the inn and the restaurant closed 2 years ago.

When dad asked where else we could go to for dinner he and his wife gave us directions to a pub and a roadside café in Ballinluig. And then, he said ‘let me drive you there. It's only about 1 mile away’. So, so kind of him. The country mile that Dad and I had to walk back to our accommodation is a very long country mile. Now I understand where the saying came from…

Very close to the guest house we are staying in tonight is a wooden bridge called Tay Viaduct.

Tomorrow we are going to see the Salmon Ladder in Pitlochry as recommended to us by one of our blog friends! Reminds me of another one of mum’s sayings (‘I need it like a fish needs a bicycle’.)
