For our lucky 13th wedding anniversary, my spouse and I took a trip to Chicago, and had just the best time doing what we do—going to live performances of whatever suits our fancy. This trip it was:
Second City: We went to the Friday night showing of “This Too Shall Slap,” a 90+ minute combination of everything Second City does best, blending sketch comedy with improv, and it was HILARIOUS. Simply a riotous evening as this venue continues to earn its status in the comedy pantheon.
Eureka Day: Holy moly what a tremendous show this is. I honestly don’t want to tell you much about it going in, but if you are in the Chicagoland area, and can spare the change, this is a 90 minute tour-de-force you don’t want to miss. Plus, it stars one of my oldest friends (no kidding, Rebekah Ward, the red head in one of the lead roles, and I went to Pre-K together when we were like 4. And then connected again in middle school and have been friends ever since, through marriages, divorces, re-marriages, and kids. I have seen her on stage a handful of times and she remains a delight to experience execute her amazing craft.)

Scares That Care’s AuthorCon VI - THIS WEEKEND! I’ll have quite a bit going on at this conference, as I am helping table with Rebekah Cuthbert (author and EIC, Undertaker Books) and our friend the author Sam Rebelein, as well as:
Saturday, noon-1pm, I am moderating a panel discussion on Folk Horror in the age of modern technology, featuring the authors Jennifer McMahon, Thomas R Clark, Tony Evans, Bitter Karella, and Stephan Mark Rainey.
Saturday, 2:15-3pm, Live reading/performance with Stephen Kozeniewski (2nd Floor, Room 8)
Sunday, 11:45-12:45, Panel discussion on genre mashups (Weird Westerns, Grimdark, and Military Horror), moderated by Robert Whitmore, alongside fellow panelists Daniel J Volpe, Andrew Naijburg, and Stephen Kozeniewski.
BizzaroCon: May 15-17, Portland, OR. This will be my second BizzaroCon, and will definitely not be my last. I’ll have some extra special news to announce at this thing, and can’t wait to share it with everyone in Portland and beyond!
StokerCon, June 4-7, Pittsburgh, PA. The annual conference for the Horror Writers Association (HWA), with a ton of awesome discussions, people, and of course, the annual Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement in Horror Fiction of all sizes. No idea what I’ll be doing here, but I have made myself available for anything, and hope to at least get in a live reading.
Camp NECON, July 16-19, New Hampshire. This will be my second time at NECON, and I really can’t wait to get back to this close-knitted group of amazing writers of dark fiction to talk shop and generate new ideas.
