One of the shiniest new shingles hanging in Beverly Hills belongs to board-certified head and neck surgeon Marc Levin, MD, who specializes in facial rejuvenation. On July 1st, Dr. Levin (pronounced luh-VEEN, like that other facelift surgeon) completed a year-long fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery with Andrew Frankel, MD, a deep-plane pioneer and rhinoplasty expert. Soon after, Dr. Levin announced the opening of his eponymous Beverly Hills practice.

A native of Vancouver, Dr. Levin went to medical school at McMaster University in Ontario before pursuing a residency in head and neck surgery and facial plastic surgery at the University of Toronto, where he connected with mentors like Mike Roskies, MD, and Jamil Asaria, MD. Dr. Levin then matched to fellowship with Dr. Frankel and spent a year in Beverly Hills. “The plan was always to go back to Canada after fellowship,” he says, “but I have a wife and a young kid, and we love LA, and ultimately made the decision to stay.”

Beyond his pedigree, lack of pretense, and thoughtful approach to patient care, Dr. Levin brings an academic zeal to facial plastics, steadily contributing to the aesthetic literature. He recently co-authored an article with Dr. Frankel on the longevity of deep plane facelifts (which I covered here) and is now researching the nuances of preservation facelifting with leaders in the field. (For more on the technique, which is a modification of the extended deep plane, give this a read.)

While it’s almost impossible to avoid hot buttons when discussing facelifts (and peptides and pricing), Dr. Levin answered my questions evenhandedly, expressing an aversion to controversy, before winning over my inner cynic with: “I really just want to be nice to everyone and help out my patients.”
