Today we sat down with Monique Woodard, founding partner of Cake Ventures and a true OG of venture capital, who spent fifteen years building and operating startups before ever sitting on the investor side of the table.
We got into her actual investment thesis, and it’s not what you’d expect from a typical VC conversation. She invests in the kind of change big enough to expand entire markets, like the fact that for the first time ever, there are now more people over fifty in this country than children under fifteen.
We also talked about what it really looks like to leave something behind before you know what’s next. Monique walked away from her role with no plan and no job lined up, just savings and a belief that if she made the space, something good would find its way in and it did.
