John Van Rys · Old Dog Dumps (ODD): Dispatches from a Journeyman Writer

Milksop is one month old today. In book years, that makes him an awkward, insecure teenager. He wants people to like him but is deeply worried they don’t.

Will he find his way in the book forest, or will he be lost forever, ending his brief shelf life in a book bog?

Only readers have the power to determine this young buck’s fate.

If you’re still thinking of buying a copy or borrowing it from a library, please do! Stop by your local bookstore and ask for it. At my website, I have links for buying it from any number of booksellers.

If you’ve already ordered Milksop, are currently reading it, or are finished it—a huge thank you! When you’re finished it—and especially if you liked it—please consider shouting your joy from literal and digital rooftops:

Tell your friends. Are you old enough to remember the Fabergé Organics shampoo commercials from the ’70s and ’80s? Heather Locklear says, “I told two friends about it... and they told two friends... and they told two friends... and so on, and so on, and so on.”)

Share your copy. Better yet, keep yours and gift a copy to friends, enemies, and your family (who may, of course, also be your friends and/or enemies).

Post a rating at the website of the retailer from whom you bought Milksop, at the Chicken House Press website, and/or on Goodreads. If you feel comfortable doing so, add a brief review. A sentence or two will do!

Let me know your reaction: I’d love to hear from you! If you feel comfortable doing so, share on your social media your experience of reading Milksop. (In my fantasies, I see selfies: thousands of people reading Milksop while wearing milk moustaches.)

If your local library doesn’t have a copy, recommend it for their collection.

If you belong to a book club, consider suggesting Milksop for the group.

Thanks for considering these actions. And thanks for being part of Milksop’s publishing story and one-month birthday.
