I haven’t really
wanted anything.
Trophies. Status. Cars. 401k’s. Watches. Satin sheets. Promotions. Success.
I have longed for none of those things.
It would have made
my life much easier.
Lately, though,
now that I’m over half-written,
there is something I actually want.
Don’t worry,
it’s not much.
Not in a jar or
to hang on a wall.
I want to stuff as much electricity
into my heart as it says it can handle.
Then I want to
put in some more.
I want to be full of wild energy.
The kind you get from kissing in a rising tide or watching a comet drag her burning wedding dress across the night sky.
I want the kind of power I can only find listening to someone who plays the saxophone so fearlessly the paint inside of the jazz club peels.
I’m chasing the sort of voltage
that comes when I laugh or cry or rage so unafraid that my skin
smells like a campfire.
I’m a simple person.
I don’t want much.
I want to feel all of
existence
course through me.
Not around me.
Make me a cradle for creation.
That’s it.
That’s all I want.
Like I said.
I’m not very ambitious.
I just want
the lightning.

You don’t have to be a writer. Just a human with a stirring inside of them that you can no longer ignore.
