John Callaway · John Callaway - Music and Meaning

Hello friends!

Substack has been a great platform to share some music and new ideas with you. Thank you for hanging out with me on this journey.

Recently, I spent some time in Iceland by myself. This traveling alone thing was a brand-new experience for me, but I felt like it was time to try it. I booked a cheap flight, found a cool waterfall destination, rented a car, and hit the wide open roads of Iceland. The scenery was incredible and the experience even more so. As the Indigo Girls sing in Closer to Fine, “I went in seeking clarity.”

I belted out some tunes at the top of my lungs, shed some tears, stared in amazement at the wonders of creation, and fully experienced all of it.

The return home was not what I expected. The liminal space of transition came sooner than I imagined. It is almost like we can’t plan life. Practically, that means that Katie and I have transitioned out of our roles as Co-Pastors. Katie loves her full-time work and has begun a new endeavor called The Bus Books. (More on that to come!)

I am now viewing the path as an open road. I’m not quite sure where I will land, but I am certainly learning more about myself all the time. I’m also learning to let go of the myth of absolute clarity.

That being said, I am available for musical endeavors, retreat leadership, and more. If you’ve ever wanted to work together or would like to schedule a listening session, I’d love to connect with you. I am available.

Cheers to the open road and the liminal space! I hope to see you soon!

Pointing me in a crooked line
And the less I seek my source for some definitive
Closer I am to fine”
