Okay, first thing: this week’s Depresh Mode episode
I’ve debated over the years how to fit grief into a mental health podcast. Because it’s normal, it’s natural, and far from being a sign you’re not well, it’s a sign that you have loved. The way we treat grief? That might be a little crazy.
This week on Depresh Mode, I welcome s.e. smith (their capitalization choice), author of All My Dead Cats and Other Losses. It’s sort of about all the cats s.e. has had and lost but in a larger sense it’s about how we handle death and grief. How it’s handled with horror and shame instead of love and grace. s.e. talked to dozens of death professionals, including funeral directors, psychologists, funeral directors, and death doulas. s.e. thinks we need to be talking about death ALL THE TIME.
And you know what that means: the high school goths WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG.
Then we welcome Emily Nagoski, author of possibly the most popular book about sex in the world right now, Come As You Are, and a frequent guest for a story about how she had to battle her agoraphobia in order to go see Bigfoot: The Musical.
And one other thing:
It’s a show I hosted from 2016 to 2020. Then I was laid off and the show was canceled. But just lately, I BOUGHT IT. And there’s a new episode in the podcast feeds!
What will I do with the old show now that it’s a new show? Working on that.
Don’t you already have a mental health podcast, John? Shut up.
My production team (me) is at hilariousworldpod@gmail.com if you have ideas, thoughts, or comments.
Okay! Short one this week! I’m trying to take some time off!
