Syndromes are interchangeable

I’m up way past my bedtime, and I started thinking about this “syndrome” I’ve been accused of possessing.

For starters, I won’t apologize for being bitten by the Trump Derangement Syndrome bug. In fact, I’m kinda proud of it. But it’s more just a bit hypocritical of the MAGA cultists to toss the TDS accusation at folks such as me. Why?

Because they had become afflicted with similar syndromes from 2009 until 2017 when Barack Obama was head of state and commander in chief. Same can be said of the Joe Biden, who served a single term from 2021 until 2025.

But this “disease” predates the current and immediate past administrations.

How about Clinton Derangement Syndrome that was prevalent from 1993 tuntil 2001, during Bill Clinton’s two-term presidency? The right wingers then fomented some hideous conspiracy theories about President Clinton and, yes, his wife Hillary.

The worst, of course, was the cooked-up murder of a longtime Clinton friend and political ally, Vince Foster. Why, even the noted “Christian” evangelist Jerry Falwell wrote a book that asserted that the Clintons were responsible for murdering Foster.

Falwell is dead now, but I always will qualify his Christianity with quote marks because his attitude toward the Clintons was far short of the kind of faith he said he owned.

So, Trump Derangement Syndrome is nothing new. It’s just taking on a new form aimed at pillorying a Republican POTUS.
