As brands and destinations increasingly seek to engage LGBTQ consumers, many still focus only on Pride Month campaigns — missing opportunities for authentic, year-round connection. I’d love to share strategies on how companies and tourism boards can meaningfully reach LGBTQ audiences outside of Pride, building loyalty and impact throughout the year.

1. Representation in Marketing Year-Round

  • Use LGBTQ individuals and families in ads, social campaigns, and collateral year-round, not just in June.

  • Feature authentic, diverse stories—different races, genders, body types, and ages.

2. Support LGBTQ Nonprofits and Community Organizations

  • Partner with local LGBTQ centers, youth organizations, or HIV/AIDS nonprofits.

  • Sponsor events like queer film festivals, art exhibits, or health initiatives happening throughout the year.

3. Highlight LGBTQ History and Culture

  • Share stories tied to LGBTQ history months (LGBTQ History Month in October, Transgender Day of Visibility in March, etc.).

  • Promote travel itineraries or products that honor queer heritage and culture.

4. Employee Engagement and Visibility

  • Encourage employees to share their LGBTQ stories on company platforms.

  • Showcase inclusive workplace policies and support Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).

5. Inclusive Travel and Hospitality Marketing

  • For destinations: Highlight LGBTQ-owned businesses, queer-friendly nightlife, and safe spaces in travel campaigns.

  • Partner with LGBTQ influencers and travel writers to create authentic content.

6. Advertise in LGBTQ Media

  • Support LGBTQ publications, podcasts, and platforms consistently—not only during Pride season.

  • Buy ads around the holidays, winter travel season, or major cultural events.

7. Authentic Partnerships with LGBTQ Creators

  • Collaborate with queer content creators, influencers, and thought leaders year-round.

  • Prioritize long-term partnerships instead of one-off Pride campaigns.

8. Product Launches with Inclusion in Mind

  • Ensure product design and marketing reflect inclusivity (e.g., fashion lines with gender-neutral options).

  • Celebrate everyday milestones—back-to-school, holidays, travel season—with LGBTQ-inclusive messaging.

9. Celebrate LGBTQ Awareness Days and Observances

Beyond Pride, honor key dates such as:

  • National Coming Out Day (Oct 11)

  • Transgender Day of Visibility (Mar 31)

  • World AIDS Day (Dec 1)

  • International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (May 17)

10. Community Storytelling Campaigns

  • Share customer or community stories highlighting LGBTQ experiences.

  • Invite LGBTQ consumers to co-create content or campaigns.

11. Authentic Corporate Responsibility

  • Publicly support LGBTQ rights and legislation that impacts the community.

  • Take meaningful stances on equality issues, not just celebratory moments.

12. LGBTQ-Specific Travel Packages & Experiences (for destinations)

  • Create unique travel packages tailored to LGBTQ couples, families, or solo travelers.

  • Partner with queer-owned restaurants, nightlife, and cultural attractions.

13. Highlight Intersectionality

  • Recognize the diversity within the LGBTQ community by featuring queer people of color, trans individuals, people with disabilities, and older LGBTQ adults.

14. Customer Loyalty & Engagement Programs

  • Develop reward programs or promotions targeted toward LGBTQ consumers.

  • Celebrate loyalty milestones with inclusive messaging.

15. Support LGBTQ Entrepreneurs

  • Collaborate with queer-owned businesses in your supply chain.

  • Feature them in your brand storytelling and campaigns.
