I love writing essays on Substack. They help me work out what I really think, and provide a reference point for later conversations. However, it’s a weirdly singular and lonely way of thinking, and I know many people (including me) struggle to read long essays, especially when it’s on a screen rather than in a physical book.
That’s one of the reasons Shanice McBean, Jonas Marvin and I have launched Life of the Party. Focussing on the new left party(s) - congratulations Zack Polanksi, your face is gonna make it’s way into the show art from next week - we’ll bring you the kind of analysis and commentary you’ve come to expect from our Substacks, but in audio form.
The pod is squarely aimed at party builders - left members in the Green Party and prospective members of Your Party. Our hope is to open up debates around strategy, structure and programme to a far wider group of people, bucking the tendency of Corbynism to keep discussions behind closed doors and direct members to share, like and ‘defend Jeremy’.
We’ll be honest, critical and maybe even funny too. Hopefully it’ll be like having a smart conversation in the pub with friends.
