Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) went to Iraq as a 24-year-old Marine. He lost 22 men from his unit while he was out there, and later laid bare the reality of living with PTSD in his book, “They Called Us Lucky.”
He joins me on the latest episode of The Daily Beast Podcast to discuss the war in Iran, the young generation of American troops being sent to fight it—and the “bad leadership” leading them there in the first place. Let’s get into it:
History repeating: Senator Ruben is concerned we’re going to live with another generation of young American boys and girls who will have to carry the burden of “bad leadership.” He explains how that’s exactly how he got to Iraq in the first place. It was bad leadership that chose to go to war in Iraq, “bad decision-making” in the conduct of the war, and the leadership meant to get them out of there, wasn’t there.
