Somehow this post didn’t transfer across from my blog - Life in LaLaLand - and having started watching the new gun-slinging, Texas-based drama around the lives of some wealthy wives (Hunting Wives), it reminded me of a different set of wives but ones I loved despite the hangovers:

A little weary today after a hard night on the tiles...well more lazing around the pool with a cocktail at some celebrity-led hotel in Hollywood.
An Australian friend - gosh, I love Australians you have no idea - invited me to go up to Hollywood for dinner and drinks as her sister was in town. I was a little jaded already after Thursday out dancing with CB, Friday dinner at 'friend's - I use the term loosely as we came home with their Boxer Turtle - Saturday we had the boy's best friend and his sister for a sleepover that involved very little sleep, Sunday I did the cinema as I felt I should so last night was really a night on the sofa. It was 112 degrees on the car's temperature gauge when I came out of a shop yesterday lunchtime altho' it did drop to 99 as I drove off so it was already a tough day. Then we had our usual Monday afternoon madness altho' it's now generated into Fin doing golf - the new Tiger apparently - then Baby Mac does ballet then jazz and hip hop whilst I try to hold homework club for Fin along with a bit of charging around the sports centre thrown in. So you can imagine that the thought of going out with a fifteen minute turnaround was not high on my list of things I'd like to do that evening.
Still, off we went, running a little late, and met another Aussie downtown where we transferred into her car. We hit the freeway and gosh, I mean hit given how she was driving, but noone really had any idea where we were going and they didn't see the value of the Cynthia's of this world - our GPS has a full personae - as then you didn't learn where you were going. Seemed to me that we had no idea anyway. Still we finally hit Sunset Boulevard and just headed in land in hopes we'd get where we needed to go. That was before a car drove into the back of us rather hard. Apparently he'd been adjusting his seat belt....
There was a little torture over where we were going to park but eventually we saw sense and paid the $10 for valet service outside Beso. It's Eva Longoria Parker's new joint venture. It's all very glamorous and gorgeous and the cocktails slipped down nicely but the food wasn't outstanding altho' the bill most definitely was...
So around midnight we sloped out of there and decided a swanky hotel cocktail bar by the pool was our next port of call. More cocktails, a lot more chat and finally homeward bound. However by now we'd totally lost the ability to navigate not that we'd done particularly well on the way up to town. Then the 110 freeway was closed so, I kid you not, we spent an eon charging up and down streets, freeways and anything that seemed likely trying to find a way out of the place. We asked late night roadworkers, we stopped at petrol stations, we did everything but ring home to ask for help - given it was 2am by the time we suggested this it was pushing it a little.
Eventually we made it, goodness knows how, and we survived the power-crazed driver of the fancy convertible we were travelling in and the whiplash from earlier had been eased by the fancy drinks.
As I fell into bed, I wondered why it was that I had a meeting at school 5 1/2 hours later and why I thought it necessary to attend...’
