Another slow year done for GeoJS. Traffic was again up and down but peaked at the end with over 5.5 billion requests in a single month. It still doesn’t quite beat the February 2021 peak of 6.2 billion but is still a large amount of traffic.
Like last year, traffic was up and down month on month. November saw the biggest spike with 21% growth.

2023 overtook 2022 in the single largest day of traffic, with the 10th of November serving 216,398,166 requests totalling ~250GB. This is slightly less than 2022’s record day, which served 258GB. Since I’m so late writing this post, I now know that 2024 blows all those records out of the water, so we’ll have to wait until next year to update them.
Over 2023, GeoJS served over 60TB of traffic to users, with Cloudflare serving 12TB of those directly from their cache. As always, I want to thank Cloudflare once again for providing the bandwidth they do. GeoJS has come under a large number of DDoS attacks over 2023, which I didn’t have to do anything to handle—Cloudflare just sends me an email letting me know. The old GeoJS infrastructure would’ve crumbled.
2023 didn’t have any infrastructure changes. Hopefully, 2024 will have some to reduce the current error rate that spikes every now and then and reduce the ongoing costs of the platform.
