I have been wanting to interview Soeuraya Wilson for what feels like years, but for the timing only finally aligned on this trip.

I first discovered Soeuraya during COVID, when I started live-streaming The Class. I was truly drawn to her energy and warmth, but I knew very little about who she was beyond what I saw on the mat.

As she shares in our conversation, Soeuraya never set out to become an instructor. She had her heart set on being a performer. She went to high school with Alicia Keys and Britney Spears. And at this time, her dream was entirely in reach.

While my dream looked very different, I could fully relate. Mine being to become a fashion executive, a CEO, to be exact. I was set on creating my own major at NYU Gallatin and working my way into the C-suite of a respected fashion house.

But none of that happened. I didn’t get into Gallatin, and despite giving the fashion industry everything I had, I ultimately left it in 2017.

That being said, we both ended up exactly where we were meant to be. Neither of us followed the path we had so carefully planned, but in letting go of those dreams, we still found a sense of peace.

Soeuraya’s story is raw, honest, and heartfelt. I absolutely loved recording this episode, and I can’t wait for you to discover it.

Enjoy,

xx,

JJ
