Annually Whatcom READS invites writers to explore a theme inspired by the featured book with top entries published in the Whatcom WRITES anthology.
My poem Reality Check (see below) was a 2026 selection. The theme this year was Family: Formed, Found and Chosen to compliment Solito by Javier Zamora.
Reality Check is fiction rooted in difficult life experiences shared with family and friends. The names represent significant people in my life. Somehow in the midst of struggles, we find strength and solace in the depth of love that transcends time and circumstances.
I will be reading Reality Check as a part of the Salish Sea Poetry Festival Pop-Up event on Thursday April 23rd at Skylarks Cafe in Fairhaven at 6:30 PM (a free all-ages event).
