There is a saying in politics: You campaign the way you govern.
The message is your political actions help voters and supporters understand how you and your coalition will lead if elected to public office.
DNC Chair Ken Martin and Michigan Democratic Party’s Senate Nominee Abdul El-Sayed need to decide whether they want to unite Democrats and WIN ELECTIONS or if they want to continue the arrogant political hack tactics of ignoring all threats and hope for the best.
The problem with that approach is you can’t say you believe in a “big tent” party if you allow haters and dividers to speak for it.
In July, Hasan Piker was invited to serve as a keynote speaker at the DNC-sponsored College Democrats of America Convention in Washington, DC. According to some reports at the event, some anti-Hasan influencers were prevented from attending the convention and according to the CDA Jewish Caucus they were locked in the room and forced to watch the speech.
Since CDA is the official college outreach arm of the Democratic National Committee which is listed as a sponsor of the convention, Ken Martin and his staff have been asked to put out a statement separating himself from this decision but he has been silent.
At minimum, Ken should meet with the CDA Jewish Caucus to hear their concerns included in their statement about the toxic environment they were subjected to by this hateful and divisive speaker.
And he should do the same with the leadership of the Michigan Jewish Democrats and Jewish Democrats of America who published statements on their concerns over Abdul El-Sayed’s connections with Hasan Piker as well. He also should reach out to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel who is so concerned with the toxic environment at the upcoming Michigan Democrats Convention she said she is going to skip it.
Unfortunately for Ken, Abdul doubled down by hanging out with Hasan on Election Eve and at his Victory Party on Michigan Primary Day which made him famous across the media spectrum.
I watched Abdul’s Meet The Press interview today and every word he said was buried by his inability to separate himself from Hasan Piker. Here is a clip where Abdul LITERALLY said he doesnt care who he campaigns with which is Political Suicide.
Abdul also claimed Hasan doesn’t believe America deserved 9/11 but he framed a picture of the twin towers in flames on 9/11 on his studio wall in July which Moms Demand Founder Shannon Watts posted to call it out. Her and other prominent Democrats like Neera Tanden of the Center For American Progress and James Carville are all speaking up on this. Joe Scarborough made a strong statement on MSNOW this week.
I know that Michigan Dems are uniting right now but I think out-of-state dems should keep an arm’s length from Abdul’s campaign. We need to vet candidates before featuring them and this candidate is a risky investment.
His association with Hasan is a dealbreaker for many democrats, especially in the jewish community, but regardless it probably will end his campaign as Republicans are already pouncing. I am sure many of his supporters will say he is a victim but the problem is he is DELIBERATELY boosting Hasan’s image and empowering Republicans to scare voters.
During the Meet The Press interview, they also discussed how Abdul spoke to Barack but wasn’t endorsed and I don’t think it was an accident. He trashed Michelle’s “we go high” quote with violent rhetoric last year so he is rejecting the Obama’s values. Barack killed Bin Laden, the mastermind of 9/11, and ran away from his controversial pastor then gave a speech to explain their relationship, but on the contrary, Abdul campaigned with a 9/11 Fan Boy.
My dad’s colleagues died in the towers while he was on his way to a meeting in WTC1 on September 11th. If democrats think anyone over 40 “forgot” 9/11 they are insane or political hacks. With the 25th anniversary coming up next month this issue will drop like a media neutron bomb on the heads of Democrats at peak campaign season if it isn’t confronted.
That is the tip of the iceberg when a candidate is campaigning with Hasan as he seems obsessed with antisemitic-sounding rhetoric and support of terrorist groups. He literally praised “marxist-leninist” doctrine to keep dems in line after the Michigan primary.
This guy is going to drag the entire ticket down with him. Democrats should be very cautious about wasting anyone’s time or money trying to save him. It will only breach trust with members even if they are quiet about it and that is especially true with jewish members.
There are 10 Dems and a Dem-endorsed Independent we should support before Abdul and several of them are performing in the polls better despite running in redder states like Jon Ossoff, Roy Cooper, James Talarico, Josh Turek, Mary Pelota, Troy Jackson and Sherrod Brown. Even longshots like Adam Hamilton of Kansas, Dem-endorsed Dan Osborn from Nebraska and Alex Vindman of Florida are more worthy of outside support.
