HAPPY (almost) HALLOWEEN!

We’re only a week away from one of the best nights of the year. There’s a reason I started the Almost Like Magic series around Halloween and made Stella’s birthday exactly between October 31st and November 1st. It was the perfect way to introduce my world and celebrate my favorite holiday.

October 20th was the anniversary of Soulless Mates coming out! My little collection is two years old now! October 29th will be the 4th anniversary of Bad Company! I can’t believe how fast those four years have gone!

Speaking of Almost Like Magic, I spent a long weekend at my favorite twice-a-year writing retreat and wrote over 4000 words on book 4. And here’s a lil (very rough first draft) snippet for you!

Who do you think Stella is calling out to? (I won’t confirm! But guess away!)

  • ALMOST LIKE MAGIC BOOK 4!!! Though I do indeed have the title picked out, I’m not sharing it just yet! But I’m up to 8500 words so far and really like where things are heading.

  • OMG! I cannot get my brain to shut up on like three other projects that I also really want to find the time for, but I’m trying to keep my focus on just the one story for now.

  • Yeah, yeah, yeah…one of these days I’ll actually finish a book! I’m making steady progress on The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher (sadly currently out of print), by EM Anderson, and I’m about 75% done with it. So much fun!

  • Next up is Monster Sitter, the first book in the Chaos Caretakers series, and I’m really looking forward to diving into it.

  • I’m ALSO reading a nonfiction book for research but revealing the title will be ALL THE SPOILERS, so sorry, not sharing just yet.

  • At the start of the month, I participated in an online stuff-your-kindle type event and had all four of my ebooks discounted to only 99¢. Though sales were not as high as I’d hoped, I’m never upset at any sale! Even if I get one for the whole month, I’m thrilled someone took a chance on my book. But I sold 10 books over that long weekend! And most of them were for Wild Spirit. This was the first time book 3 had been available to be part of one of these events, so that tells me readers had picked up Bad Company and Against the Wind at earlier events.

(other = Australia…I don’t know why the reporting will only name the first three regions)

  • October got off to another slow start, but this week has been a big improvement, as you can see in the below graph. I started a new ad a few days ago, and instead of linking to an amazon.com page, I created a universal link that will allow readers from other regions to click and be directed to their local sites. Wit that universal link, I was able to add Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand all in one ad, along with the US. Already I’ve seen a marked uptick in Kindle Unlimited page reads (you can see in the below chart where the new ad kicks in on Oct 21), and most of those have been from outside of the US. (hello to all my new readers if you’ve found my newsletter!) The other cluster of page reads earlier in the month took place around the kindle event, which is always a nice little boost to my KU readership.

And that’s about it for this month! I look forward to your guesses about who’s in the snippet above, and I’ll be sharing more snippets going forward!

I hope you all have a fantastic Halloween, and are enjoying these cozy fall days. For those of you from Australia and New Zealand…I hope you’re enjoying your lovely spring days.

Happy reading,

Jill 🎃 🧙🏻‍♀️💫 📚
