Jill Atogwe · the gold standard.

I stand before you today a woman exhausted. Three months of broken sleep, working in the middle of the night because I’ve taken on too much but can’t think of anything to let go, completely overstimulated by the extra weight on my body and the extra demands on my time and my recalled medication that is supposed to make my body work.

This week was meet the teacher and school carnival and the first day and the back to school pizza party with cousins and date night and the Mama Mia party and church and our track end of season party. I got dressed many times this week because the week called for it, and I want you to know that you can get dressed even in the hardest of weeks/months/seasons too.

This morning, it took me twenty seven minutes before church to get dressed. I got new pants that actually fit and was determined to make them work, only to land on an outfit I’ve worn every week since giving birth. I always tell new moms, “it’s not you, it’s the clothes.” But today, I knew it was me, not the clothes. My mind. It’s just like that sometimes and there’s grace for it, but I know something needs to change and I pray that it’s more self-forgetfulness.

That’s today’s disclaimer. These look pretty put together and that’s due to staples that carry my entire wardrobe, a true five minute face of makeup, this texturizing hair putty that has saved my hair that needed to be washed a week ago. Because things were not lined up for me to be fabulous this week and I couldn’t let the photos trick you into thinking otherwise.
