Hello, everyone!
I have another cover for you today, this time a song I’ve played with my band, Wildwood Minstrels: “Black is the Color.”
This has been one of my favorite folk songs for years, since I first heard Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker’s version. It’s a traditional Scottish folk song, and was also one of the first songs I learned to play on ukulele.
Enjoy!
Black is the color of my true love’s hair
His face is like some wondrous fair
With the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands
I love the ground whereon he stands
I love my love and well he knows
I love the ground whereon he goes
And if my fate and fortune be
I would have you as you have me
I go to the Clyde to mourn and weep
Satisfied, I ne’er can be
Write him a letter, just a few short lines
Then suffer death a thousand times
Black is the color of my true love’s hair
His face is like some wondrous fair
With the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands
I love the ground whereon he stands
I love...
I love...
I love the ground whereon he stands
