I think hearing people’s dreams is boring, but I do wish that I could take a camera into my dreams because there are always really epic jewelry pieces in my dreams, as well as fantastic fashion.
I am not all here—I’ve had three days of five-hour infusions pumped into me. I had the wildest dreams last night, like drug-induced crazy dreams.
Yesterday was Thursday. Today is Friday. I say that out loud because I’m not really sure what planet I’m on right now.
I got home from the hospital about 11:30 AM and went to sleep. I set my alarm to wake up at 4:30 PM so I could shower, iron a jacket, put on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, and as much jewelry as possible to make the outfit look fantastic. I wore a Dolce & Gabbana vintage white—it’s now cream—blazer with my Vintage Cacharel jeans from the ‘80s that I got on Depop, and they’re amazing, with a pair of Ferragamo slides that look like loafers. They’re square-toed. They’re just chef’s kiss. I got those at the Lincoln Road Antiques Market. The reason I’m telling you all about my fashion is — I was getting dressed to go see my girlfriend Ginny Hilfiger. She was speaking at The Moore, and, come hell or high water, I was going to go support my friend.
I walked into The Moore. It’s a beautiful building with a gorgeous history. It was restored instead of being torn down, which is very rare in Miami.
I visited Foundrae on the ground floor, because of course. Billy was the guy who said hello to me. He offered me water, which I definitely took, I was parched from all the medication. But I didn’t know that Beth, the founder also collects brass and has antiques for sale. Every single piece they were selling were items from my family home, which also just felt like home.
Today, I was interested in the display rather than the jewelry.
It’s like looking inside someone’s brain... it really is an experience. Well done FoundRae!
When I enter The Moore, there’s a whole group of people, and the first person I see is this guy I slept with during COVID, and I blocked him. We know what that story’s all about, right? I’m just not a fan. I was very gracious. He was very nice. But he was one of those people who was extremely, “Who do you know? What do you know?”—that kind of puffed-up chest. I just wasn’t into that. Like, you know, go fuck yourself.
I've been invited into a group of women here in Miami because I showed up. A few of you read my article about what happens when you just show up to a women's event. Honestly, it’s been the best thing I’ve done for myself in a long time, these women are incredible. I’m so happy. They’re kind, accomplished, and generous, and I’m really happy to be part of the group. I love them all.
I know that sounds corny, but it’s very hard to meet that kind of person here in Miami, and I found my core group.
Ginny knows one of the women in the group, Karolina, who is our ringleader, she, Karolina Kurkova, and Ipek | Math of Being the group.
We meet for coffee, you know, but we also go to events together, and I really wanted to support her.
About nine women showed up for this event, and Karolina had generously saved seats for all of us in the front row. There were eight chairs for nine women, so we were all squeezed together, with me right in the middle—not quite as comfy as I would have liked after three days of infusions. She knows what is going on, she is gentle and rubs my back. A new but true friend, and very subtle but endearing.
We're all sitting there cheering Ginny on and it just felt like family, right?
When I invited everyone in our WhatsApp chat to come support Ginny, I told them, "By the way... Karolina’s is part of the story." Not at the event. Part of Ginny’s story —16-year-old Karolina shows up in Ginny's career in a way that makes the whole room smile.
One of the women's husbands came, and at one point I was sitting next to him. In my medicated-induced haze, I asked, "So... how do you know everyone?" Turns out, he was related.
I really have found my people.
The best conversations happened after the panel. That's where this story goes next.
