I try to send a newsletter every month, but I didn’t get to it in April.
In between my oldest getting married at the end of March, spring break, my grandma’s death, Luke’s surgery, my birthday, my daughter’s birthday, my daughter’s upcoming wedding (2 weeks away!), my anniversary, kids moving back home, a power outage + everyday life, I simply didn’t have time (shocking). In the past couple of months, I’ve cycled through grief, joy, and overwhelm - often all on the same day, but that’s called life, right? I’m learning to lean into joy in the midst of sorrow and finding gratitude when life feels overwhelming.
The other day, I received this note of encouragement after a recent speaking event from the director of programs & it made my heart simply soar. This is why I do what I do. This is why I continue to advocate for caregivers.
As a result of attending your thoughtful discussion at Renew last month, one of our dedicated volunteers brought together a group of other Renew volunteers to thoughtfully consider the next steps in supporting caregivers in our community.
Lo and behold, this group of women have made a plan to make freezer meals that will be available to any parent/caregiver/family to grab at their leisure from our small ‘cottage’ space. They also hope to ensure that the ‘cottage’ remains a cozy place of respite for families by putting their own comforting touches to the space.
Thank you for encouraging others to see, and be for caregivers. It’s a beautiful thing!
If you want to consider me as a speaker for an upcoming event, please fill out this form. I would love to join you!
Finally, our live webinar Creating a Safe and Loving Home for Your Loved One was such a hit that we turned it into a course. Don’t worry, we’ll offer the Live option again in the Fall ;-)
If you’ve ever wondered:
• What options are truly available for your loved one
• How to confidently evaluate those options without overwhelm
• What red flags to watch for (before it’s too late)
…this course was created for you.
We walk you through the real-life decisions families face—and how to make them with clarity and confidence. We also share our personal journey of creating Hope Farm for Lucas… including what worked, what didn’t, and what we would do differently today.
This isn’t just information—it’s guidance we wish we had when we started.
One-time introductory price: $29.99
Lifetime access so you can revisit anytime
Practical, honest, and deeply personal
If you’re navigating this path, you don’t have to do it alone.
Finally, I wanted to share about a book that I purchased after my grandma died that I really enjoyed called Life after Life. If you have ever been the slightest bit curious about what you’ll experience after you die, this book offers a beautiful roadmap. Check it out.
Until next month (hopefully!)
xoxo
Jess
One way that The Lucas Project provides caregivers with a little joy is through our care packages. These packages often contain self-care and rest-care items, encouragement for caregivers, and gift cards. Want to help caregivers feel appreciated and seen? Nominating a caregiver or sponsoring a care package is a perfect way to do this.
Thank you for supporting our mission.
I am now booking for 2027! If you have an event that you think I might be a good fit for, please fill out the request form below. I would love to join you!
Want to explore future residential options for your disabled loved one? Or perhaps how to write that book you’ve been putting off for years? I’d love to help. Learn more about coaching services here.
All of my books are available on Amazon. If you would like to hear how the story began, I encourage you to check them out! These would make a wonderful gift for the caregiver in your life!
