It’s a beautiful morning here in North Carolina. There is a riot of birdsong outside my window.
Lately I’ve been choosing to focus on what’s good, what I can DO about what doesn’t feel good, and WHO I can do it with.
I’ve been learning a lot about the power of the mind. If you’re like me, you might feel clear about things when you’re focused on taking actions - making music, getting to a show, helping a neighbor - but as soon as it’s time to slow down, things get foggy. The shadows can creep in, the haze, unanswerable questions. I spend a lot of time alone, mostly by choice, so rather than try to work myself to exhaustion or just mope around when I’m not doing anything else, I’ve started re-training my mind to focus on gratitude, and envisioning the life and world I want. This book has been helping me a lot.
A sweaty festival, a run in with one of my songwriting idols, a long ass drive, and no sleep: it’s the kind of thing a girl like me lives for. I wrote a longer description of the inspiration for this song from Dreaming Aloud in a previous post
We shot this version with my band here in NC last winter! Robert Sledge on vocals and bass, Rob Ladd on drums, Nathan Golub on dobro and Luis Rodriguez on electric. Enjoy! And be sure to check out the album version with Pat Byrne on vocals!
THANK YOU to everyone who has been listening to and sharing about Dreaming Aloud! I’ve included some of your sweet comments below. The release of this album has been a beautiful reminder of your support!

It has been a loooong minute since I was in the UK. I think it was 2019? Definitely the before times. I’ve been missing my people there, the grey skies, mythic landscapes, beans for breakfast, and a different accent every 20 miles. Been missing the special excitement of performing where I’m the exotic American.
So I’m very excited to share I’ll be back your way in September for a very limited number of shows. Including this London date at the beloved Green Note! I have always loved the intimacy of this room, the feeling like you’re all in it with me, because you’re less than a foot from me! You might wanna get your reservations now, because chances are this one will be a banger.
I’ll be doing my best to represent what I know: the vast majority of us over here care. We are working to make things better. And we do not approve of the tyrant on Pennsylvania Ave. More UK shows TBA soon.
PS - a little clip of Never Stop at Moccassin Creek Fest last weekend!
