Usually I have a more cohesive theme to these letters, but today, it’s a bit more stream of consciousness. I’m rambling about the random things I’m excited about, just discovered, or loved doing this week.
1. The New Yorker! My friend Wendy from my old writing group is a real estate agent on the Upper East Side. She is so encouraging, supportive, and hilarious. She sends out clever, juicy, funny little stories on postcards every so often. I texted her a pic of the postcard I just received (all the way in Brooklyn) and she immediately texted back that she had just read about LR in The New Yorker! Our netted-mesh flats made it on their list of shoes of the summer.
I’ve been reading The New Yorker since about the 5th grade, and Roz Chast is my idol (favorite cartoon is the one about the kid preferring the “little couch area of the merry-go-round”). So I was extremely thrilled to see us popping up in the magazine. A first! And a big thrill.
2. Speaking of couches, my couch glow-up is complete. I sewed the precious Lee Jofa fabric into the cushions and it looks like a million bucks, if I do say so myself. Such an affordable way to get a totally new-looking sofa. I am thrilled. Now I might have to do this on other uninspired pieces of furniture I have laying around. All you need is a seam ripper, some pretty fabric, a sewing machine, and these handy dandy clips I love to use instead of pins.
3. We’ve been busy this week (and for months actually) getting ready for our Nantucket pop-up happening July 21-28. I am so excited!! We have so many fun treats and surprises up our sleeves (including hosting an event with my friends at The Perfect). I spent this week working on the mood board that will go behind the cash wrap in the shop. I chose images that inspired the Summer Collection, fabric swatches, vintage embroideries, etc., and I leaned in heavily to my Cape Cod heritage (my great grandfather built a tiny cottage in Orleans, MA in 1928. Is this where I get my DIY streak from? Maybe). I chose lots of photos of my grandparents plus one of me with a pot belly in a bikini age three on Nauset Beach. These are the best push pins for a tack-up board. I always use the green.

4. Brian and I posed for this absurd shot several weeks ago. Any guesses why we would be posing like this, and cramming Bri’s foot into Loeffler Randall deck shoes?

5. This past weekend, Bri and I attended an event for Hetrick Martin, a wonderful organization supporting LGBTQIA+ youth. I liked our (unplanned) sorbet color story. A miracle to get my husband out of those hideous river action sandals with socks!
This top is my event go-to because it’s ruffled and special and wow but also chill. I paired it with a sheer pink skirt.
6. For a big photoshoot at my house, I impulse bought two wicker chairs that were sitting outside (hopefully not molding) at the ARF thrift shop. I got the pair of them for $125 (I found some similar on Etsy, but the more I look the more I know this was a good find!). I wrapped some Howe London fabric around the cushions, et voilà!
Can’t decide if I like them or not. Maybe I will repaint them at some point.
7. My friend Sara and I had the best day on Saturday attending the annual antiques show at the East Hampton Historical Society. We giggled the entire time. I was a little worried the antiques would be too serious and all totally insanely priced but that wasn’t the case. So many gorgeous and inspiring booths. I picked up this cute little painting of a fish.
8. My friend Rachel DMed to tell me about the show her husband created called “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.” Have you watched it? I just started and I’m hooked. It’s scary, suspenseful, funny at times, and very, very clever. I really love the lead actress in it and her adorable teeth.
9. I enjoyed reading this essay. The writing of the letter itself is chef’s kiss, and the super specific, obscure subject matter is right up my alley.
Five Things I’m Loving This Week:
1. I recently discovered the concept of needlepoint scissor covers (!!!) This would be a genius gift to make for a friend. And I might just have to try that for Christmas gifts. This website has a nice curation of vintage needlepoint, but sort of slim pickings at the moment. Etsy also works.
2. Jenny at Theodosia sent me a gift of more necklaces. Love each of them! There’s a special code to enjoy 20% off in my June letter, just for paid subscribers.
3. I’m packing for Nantucket and I’m of course bringing this hat, this dress, my trusty tees I recently restocked up on, this jacket for the breeze, and a whole suitcase full of shoes. And my tennis racquet.
4. I have the same sense of humor as a 14-year-old boy. This cracked me up.
5. I need this rug from Nickey Kehoe!
And One Thing I Hate:
When someone says “Appreciate you.” Now, if the word “I” precedes those words, the meaning completely transforms and it feels genuine to me. But without the subject? The worst!
