Auspiciously for the month of March, Venus enters Pisces on its very first day. After the fiery Mars-flavored gauntlet of February, the vibe now becomes more watery, and the chances of positivity much higher — though, for multiple reasons, intensity levels will remain high. With the Venus transit in mind, I’ll step through the month looking at its notable astro-events, and provide some sign-by-sign suggestions for how Venusmaxx this month (scroll all the way down for those).
Before I dive deeper into the watery theory at play here, below are some very general areas we can focus on to help us reap the benefits of this wonderful transit, and avoid the pitfalls. These are for all signs.
Rise above entanglement and/or transactionalism. As Pisces’ two fish suggest, there is a lot of entanglement in this sign, and especially in its Venusian amplification. Everything comes at a price. We can do something spiritual (or just good), but not without sacrificing something valuable (which might make it not worth it). Be aware of these kinds of transactional demands and remember generosity is always possible, and goodness is always good. That is the way of Venus.
On the flip, be careful of overspending! Pisces is the natural 12th House which rules spending of all kinds. Venus exalted here is the definition of the “impulse buy” or “retail therapy”. But because of the entanglement factor, there can also “buyer’s remorse” manifested through spending beyond one’s means, false advertising, fraud, loss, temporary insanity, etc. Things can be beautiful without being possessed.
Purification and Healing. Venus rules both of these things and exalted Venus will gift them wherever possible. It’s a great transit for any kind of doctor visit or health related regimen. If there is something you have been procrastinating in this area (dentist?) then this transit can help break that pattern. Similarly Venus rules our immune systems (white blood cells, kidneys!) so we have the capacity now to deal with nagging body issues —we are empowered to protect and heal ourselves. (Even if we don’t go to the dentist now, for example, just making the appointment at this time will imbue that appointment, when it does happen, with positive Venus energy.)
Truthfulness. Related to purification, the sign Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, who brings the power of discernment to a sometimes greedy Venusian world-view. Please be careful with untruths, exaggerations, or even white lies. Doing these things immediately gives power to the Saturn that is floating nearby (as we’ll get into, extremely nearby), and damages or twists the effects of Venus in our lives. By extension, don’t be surprised if you are the recipient of untruths as well …
Beauty! Love! Happiness! Yes! Venus’ credo is that the highest spiritual truths can and should be reflected in the material world and this month will bear that out in multiple ways. So when we go to a museum, or see a beautiful sunset, or flower, we are actually worshipping Venus-style. Enjoy it! In Venus-language, that enjoyment is a form of prayer, and will also heal. The same goes for making art — and making love! Venus is the planet that ensures the continuation of life on earth by inspiring us to get together and reproduce. Enough said! Let’s go, people!
Pisces, a dual sign, is symbolized by two fishes, one swimming up and one swimming down. One reaches for “moksha”, liberation, and one plunges down to “narka” to explore the deepest causes of our human suffering: attachment, delusion, aversion. Into this turbulent, some might say karmically chaotic environment, swims Venus for a short, powerful transit with no retrogrades. Venus is comfortable with both of the Piscean extremes, and actually has so much to offer them that it becomes “exalted” here — reaching its maximum levels of expression. On the up-facing liberation side, Venus is able to purify and inspire, and hold us to the highest spiritual standards; on the downward journey, Venus can also manifest all that is “Venal”, characterized, mostly, by an insatiable materialism. Venus represents physical attraction, and consumption, in all its forms.
Venus rules blooming flowers (especially white and pink ones) and, just as this transit kicks, the early jasmine is blooming here in SoCal, wafting thick slabs of scent over our quiet backyards and streets. Similarly, the “super blooms” in the area are supposed to be the biggest in years, fueled by ample rain followed quickly by something like summer (it was 90˚ yesterday). These super blooms ARE visible from outer space — so are literally “planetary” — and are a wonderful expansion of Venus-energy. Millions of flowers offering themselves to the universe … looking — and spreading — love.
But super blooms illustrate the flip-side of Venus too. Attracted via social media (which Venus loves), humans compete for the perfect super bloom selfie or Instagram story, and make a mess. Neighborhoods, naturalists and farmers complain of trespassing, over-crowding and destruction (trampling the flowers!) in the areas where these blooms take place. There are issues with parking, littering and other forms of chaos to the point where Mars and Sun have to step in, with rules, restrictions and commands. The sweetest of Venusian intentions becomes a catalyst for baser impulses, and degrades the experience.
This is a modest example, but Venus-degradation is a big issue in March. When it enters Pisces, Venus joins Saturn who has been lurking in this sign since April ’25 and will stay until May ’27. I wrote about this here (scroll down to “Saturn Turns Direct in Pisces). On a global level, Saturn in Pisces will continue to do its thing, but on a personal level — where Venus operates the best — it can affect the tone of this transit a lot and definitely challenge it. On a personal level, Venus wants to bring people (and beings) together, Saturn wants to separate, or isolate them. It’s almost as though Saturn does not want people to be distracted by petty things, like, oh say, love. Its method is to “dry” the effect of Venus out (Saturn is windy), making its personal, more emotional expressions more difficult to access and easier to ignore, essentially — and actually (via conjunction) — eclipsing it. More on this, and other potential spoilers of this beautiful transit below.
The effects of the Venus Exaltation might be hard to parse out for the first few days of the month, primarily because of the massive eclipse that will happen in the early morning of March 3. It will be visible (though it isn’t advisable to look at it directly) all over the US, and on the East Coast there will be a very rare optical phenomenon called a selenelion where the still eclipsing moon will be visible setting just as the sun rises. An astral magic trick, and that sums up the general concept of this (and every) eclipse: reality gets a bit bent and our point of view gets distorted. Because this is the time of year the ground thaws and earthworms reappear, full moons in March are sometimes called “Worm Moons”. And because of the reddish color that an eclipse might have at this time of year (caused by the earth’s atmosphere filtering out blue light) they are sometimes called Blood Moons. So this has been christened a “Blood Worm Eclipse” ...
Technically, in Vedic Astro, this is a “Grasana” eclipse, where the “umbra”, or shadow of the earth, envelops the moon from the top — so the shadow passes down over the moon. These are considered the most dangerous kinds of eclipse and Sage Varahamira predicts that “at least one powerful leader shall die and prosperity shall decline”. And, literally, “Even the most powerful nation shall see the troubles of an economy under recession”. The eclipse takes place in Leo (Donald Trump’s rising sign btw), also the sign of “the king” which emphasizes the first part. Indeed as I write this, notifications are flashing at me saying that Ali Khamenei of Iran has been killed. I know the eclipse is still a few days away, but the 5-7 days before a major total eclipse like this are considered extremely unstable.
The most difficult effects of an eclipse are actually projected to the sign opposite where it happens, in this case Aquarius. Aquarius will, at the time, contain Mars (military), Mercury (finances), and Sun (leadership, and of course a big part of the eclipse, denoted by creepy Rahu, who is there as well). All these planets get sucked into the eclipse. Aquarius itself (ruled by Saturn) very much represents us: we the people. So, broadly speaking, these planets and the things they represent will be eclipsed as well — they will be darkened, and for a couple terrifying hours, feel alone and unsupported in the universe. I should mention that, in Vedic astrocartography, Saturn rules the Middle East. My deep fear is that our current situation in Iran might blow-up beyond our control. But all we can control are the things we can control.
In this set-up it becomes a god-send that we have an exalted Venus that is outside of the direct “rays-of-destruction” from the eclipse. This makes propitiating, or at least paying attention to, Shukra (Venus) a remedy in and of itself. However, Venus must also deal with a kind of eclipse of its own … a conjunction with Saturn.
Saturn and Venus are not enemies, but a conjunction with the Lord of Darkness cannot go by unnoticed. In the days surrounding it, I would expect the effects to be to pull Shukra down into some of its more difficult effects. Referring to the list I made above, here are some things that this conjunction might add a few days both before and after it. And, as mentioned, to a lesser extent these things will be in effect for the whole transit (until March 23) since Saturn is in Pisces the whole time.
Transactionalism: not just a give-and-take, but now there could be some kind of threat involved. Take the high road! This will fade.
Overspending: Saturn takes Venus’ splendor away, which you could say means spending its resources. You might find ways to spend money in the name of “sacrifice” (Saturn) which seems somehow called for. Be careful with the credit card!
Purification and Healing: Saturn rules dirty places, not the best for healing (Venus rules hospitals). Extra attention may be necessary on personal or domestic hygiene, stay vigilant.
Truthfulness. Saturn also wants truthfulness, but by overpowering Shukra here, there could be a lack of sensitivity. Look out for both saying and receiving brutal or hurtful messages.
Beauty! Love! Happiness! Saturn supports the physical expressions of beauty but the love and happiness might be less during these days.
I also want to say, in terms of PEACE, Venus stands for love but it is not necessarily peaceful. Many great fighters and warriors have charts ruled by Venus. Venus will kill if it needs to to survive. The word “Shukra” also relates to semen — and we know that to be a sperm is to play in the ultimate game of Survivor. Only one will remain on the island, the rest will perish.
I wrote about Mars last month, when it was exalted and extremely powerful. Mars has since moved into Aquarius, where it is still dangerous. As mentioned it will be part of the eclipse on Tuesday. Then on the 13th it becomes conjunction with Rahu, a “shadow planet” that represents the Northern eclipse point. This will essentially reprise the eclipse, customized for Mars. It is well known as a dangerous, possibly violent combination: Rahu’s turbulence mixed with Mars’ fire can cause explosions (or also floods). Please be careful especially if you are a Scorpio or Aries (ruled by Mars), or have Mars in an important place. Be careful driving or traveling, both of which rely on Mars and Rahu to happen.
Jupiter rules Pisces (where Venus is) so what happens with Jupiter does matter. As the eclipse happens, Jupiter will be in the process of slowing down, and on March 11 it (very slowly) starts to move in the other direction (ie direct). This is a big deal because the planet is now heading directly to Cancer, the sign of its exaltation. It won’t arrive till the beginning of June, but the energy of exaltation will now, inevitably, begin to build. (I wrote a post about this exaltation, one of the most beneficial transits possible in this kind of astrology, and it happens every 12 years.) Because of Jupiter’s protective and wisdom-bringing qualities, and the fact that it rules Pisces (where the Venus exaltation is happening), I think that it going direct will have a big effect on the look/feel of this month, and that the second half will be much better than the first. This goes for all the signs.
March 11 is ALSO the Jovian new year which is a calendar system based on Jupiter. Jupiter takes just under 12 years to circle the zodiac and spends just under a year in every sign (361 days on average). This forms the basis of the Jovian calendar (called Samvatsara in Sanskrit) which runs on a cycle of 60 years. Each of the years has a name. The year we are heading into is called Parābhava, which is the 40th in the 60-year Samvatsara cycle. Parābhava means “destruction”, “overthrowing”, “separation”, or “dissolution”. The symbols for it are a fallen crown (or banner); a broken pot, or a severed staff. It is very much a turning point year, however the fact that Jupiter is turning direct, on its way into Cancer, I believe we will be spared its most dastardly effects, for now and possibly forever. Still it is another charged transition point in the middle of a Venusian oasis.
There are more things I could list as Spoilers or Distractions, but the moral of the story is there is a bunch of disturbing “noise” going on that might obscure or dilute the wonderful potential of this Venus transit. This indicates that to reap the benefits of Venus we must go out and get them — they will not necessarily come to us.
In this spirit I have prepared some “booster-style” readings for each sign with regard to March’s exalted Venus transit.
Note: with regard to the below, this is based on the Sidereal, not Tropical zodiac (used in Western Astrology). If you know your Vedic ascendant, I would suggest focusing on that sign. If not, focus on the sign where your Vedic moon is. If you don’t know that, then I am also including Vedic “sun signs” by date. These are not, strictly speaking, part of traditional Vedic Astro, but there may be some valuable Venusian potentialities held for each.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 12th house which, among other things, supports travel. Going to a beautiful place, with a partner or even for business, could be seen as a kind of tribute to Venus — but be careful of price point! The 12th house also rules expenditures and with Venus there, there may be temptations you have trouble resisting — and possibly affording. Healing is supported in all its forms. Pisces is a spiritual sign, and the 12th house is a spiritual house, so, especially for you Aries folk, having Venus here will give you plenty of energy for self-work, meditation, yoga, prayer, etc. And this stuff is free! (Or it can be.)
Exalted Venus is transiting your 11th house which rules your community (or communities) and friend group. This makes it a wonderful time to connect with others — both people you know, and people you don’t. Interactions have the potential to be warm, fun and productive. This is particularly true of people connected with your work and this is a great time to “invest” in relationships or self-promotion related to your job — maybe not only for the job itself but for the “intangibles” around it. Remember, Taurus, your relationships are your true wealth, but this should also be a good time to make financial investments for long term gain. A supportive and lucrative transit all around.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 10th house of career (while Jupiter is in your 1st house). Both of these placements make powerful “mahapursha” (“Great Soul”) yogas, so this should be a positive time for you in general, particularly the second half of the month. Your work life should flow particularly well, allowing you to express yourself creatively and effectively, and keeping relationships with co-workers and bosses sweet. If this happens, dear Gemini, be grateful for it. If you have kids this will be a very supportive time for them in terms of their educations; and, if they play sports, those too. If you don’t have kids read for whatever is “kid-like” in your life: students, helpers, employees, etc. Also if you play a sport or have something you like to do for fun, this would be a great time to level up — or at least give yourself time to enjoy — whatever that activity is.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 9th house of good luck and dharma. Nice! You should feel a sense of fulfillment and particularly in terms of relationships, feel your life is going in the right direction. If this is true, practice gratitude! If it isn’t true, then this will be a great time to alter your course, or maybe get some advice. Both getting, and giving, advice is very supported in this transit, so if you are in a business that involves giving advice or sharing expertise, you should be very effective during this time. This will be a great time to make trips that are meaningful to you, whether that means going to a church or temple, or exploring and re-charging in nature. Similarly this transit also energizes any form of higher education, or course taking. So it’s a great time, dear Cancer, to make plans or commitments in any of these directions — in general, investments in your future.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 8th house of transformation and mystery. First of all this means that you could be so busy that you miss or overlook the benefits of this transit, which should be so healing and beautiful. So please make sure you slow down and look for the areas in your life where you can find this Venus energy. If you are single, is there someone you’ve met who might be interested in? If you are married, is there something you are not seeing, or valuing, about your spouse. This is a good time to dig into a creative project and immerse yourself in the process. The same goes with any kind of self-help or health regimens. In all these areas, my stubborn Leos, this Venus can help nudge you out of your practical, sometimes rigid patterns and make choices that are more life-affirming.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 7th house of relationships (perfect!) and, as for Gemini, you will benefit from two “Mahapurusha” (“Great Soul”) yogas (combinations) with Jupiter in your 10th house as well. If you are not in a relationship, this could be a great time to try one out. If you are in a relationship, this should be a more affectionate moment, or an opportunity to go deeper. The key is to make space for it. It could also be a great time to take advantage of the “purification” qualities of Venus and air out any “skeletons in the closet” that your relationship might be hiding. The same can be said for business-related relationships: this is a great time to check-in, debrief, or re-structure (or, yes, ask for a raise). In general, dear Virgos, all these interactions should feel supported, smoothed out, and lubricated by the Water Goddess Venus.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 6th house making it a great time to attend to your own health and well-being. Any activities related to your physical and/or emotional health — mainstream and/or alternative — are on the table and greatly supported. Strike while the iron is hot! If you are experiencing any difficulties in these areas, improvement should be rapid during this time. Similarly if there are any relationships in your life that have sunken into some kind of tension or dysfunctionality, please use this month to try and heal them. It might not be easy but your ability to make changes in these areas so will not last for ever, and the effects will be long lasting and beneficial. For you business and work-oriented Libras, this is, put simply, time to take care of yourselves.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 5th house of protection, mantras, creativity, and children making this a sweet time to attend to any of these things. If you have kids, this is wonderful month for meaningful or enjoyable interactions with them — try to make time. Creative projects can bloom during this time, so be open to your Muse (aka Venus) and let her guide you. If you chant mantras, or say prayers, these should feel particularly powerful this month — and it’s a great time to learn new ones. The protective qualities of the 5th house do not involve fences or security guards; they involve surrounding ourselves with the love and creativity that will sustain us no matter what else happens. This month can be dedicated to those important, lasting things, which, dear Scorpio, I know you understand.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 4th house of home and heart making it a wonderful time for any kind of home improvement as well as for family time. If you are in the process of moving or house hunting, you are in luck: this transit will make things so much easier. This is a wonderful time for home-cooked meals and delicious food in general; as well as entertaining and being entertained — take advantage! As I have said, being fully present for these simple things is a form of prayer — and a way to honor Venus. It may seem contradictory to you, oh practical and ambitious Sagittarius, that focusing on comforts, nurturing, and homespun creativity, could actually be highly productive. But such are the ways of Venus. With both Venus and Jupiter making powerful “Mahapurusha” (“Great Soul”) yogas for you this month, this one could be important — especially the second half.
Exalted Venus is transiting your 3rd house of creativity, sex and free will. Yes, exalted Venus in your sign of sex sounds horny. Capricorns can be very rigid and serious — this is the month to make some exceptions! In the area of creativity keep an eye out for your muse, she will show up for sure, and by getting inspired you are honoring Venus. This should also be a positive time for you at work, and allow you to make changes that may have been a long time coming. Relationships with children and siblings are supported as well — if there are any issues in these areas, this will be a great time to purify and heal. Time spent journaling, or doing any kind of writing, dear Capricorns, should pay off well for you at this time. I see love poems for you in March, dear Caps!
Exalted Venus is transiting your 2nd house of money and support systems. Nice! On the money side look for raises at work, promotions, new forms of income, and smart investments. In the support system area, this would be a great time to spend time with loved ones or close family members or friends. In every act of generosity you make towards these types of people, you are propitiating Venus. This is a great time for home improvements, cooking at home, or inviting people over. Speaking of food, look carefully at your diet as well. Is there anything you can improve on? (And watch out for emotional eating!). These things, like money, should come naturally, without even trying. It might, dear Aquarius, even feel as though god is taking care of you. And she is!
Exalted Venus is transiting your 1st house! Wow! Venus is in your head! This is the classic transit for confidence and popularity — these things should come easily with little effort. By appreciating these blessings you are honoring Venus, dear Pisces, so please don’t take them for granted or misuse them. Relationships are supported as well, with interactions smoothed over and lubricated by Venus, though remember you might have the upper hand energetically. The default must always be the kindness side of Venus (who can also be demanding and/or full-on) and please don’t judge! Similarly many kinds of self-improvement will be available to you during this time, and it’s a great moment to commit, or re-commit, to some kind of healthy program or diet. Both Venus and Jupiter are making Mahapurusha (“Great Soul”) yogas (combinations) for you this month — especially the second half. You will definitely miss Venus when she transits out of your ascendant on March 23rd, so take advantage!
