Howdy! I’m going to say something here about the TV shows I’ve been working on. If you only care about comics, scroll down just past the picture with the horsies.
I’m an “unscripted” TV producer by day (and sometimes by night and by weekend, too…). Right now, I have two shows with stuff happening, which is actually unusual these days. It’s been a weird time in TV. Networks have been ordering fewer and fewer projects, and a lot of people who do what I do are now real estate agents or teachers. So having two projects in flux is kind of a blessing?
One show is called TRUCK DYNASTY which is already airing on Discovery Channel on Tuesday nights at 9pmET. I had a LOT of fun making this show and I hope enough people check it out that I get to make more of it. I’ll be honest - it’s not doing all that well in live TV ratings, but I don’t know if that even matters these days with streaming and “on demand” and everything. We finished the show over a year ago, and its premiere was pushed several times because of the merging and unmerging and remerging of all the Discovery and Warner brands. Like I said… weird times…
The other one is called LAST COWBOY for Paramount. This is a series about a horse training competition that happens every year in Las Vegas, created by Taylor Sheridan. He’s also one of the EPs on the series. I’m the “field showrunner” which means I directed a lot of the action in the field and at the competition. I’m also working in post production on the show for about 4 more weeks or so. There are 5 seasons available now on Paramount+. My season won’t air for a few months.
They’re very different shows. If anyone happens to catch either of them, I’d love to hear what you think! I’m also happy to answer questions about them if you have any. I know a lot of you are also makers of things. Always happy to talk shop.
I have a Kickstarter going right now for a new issue of Scott Snyder Presents: The CloakRoom. There are two awesome people in indie comics who have already ordered their copies of the issue, supporting other indie creators. Most of this newsletter below is about them. I’m not going to spend a lot of time in this post pitching the issue, apart from saying that if about half of you popped over and ordered a copy, we’d already be funded.
Phil Falco and Kat Calamia. I’m sure at least some of you know the names. These two are the founders of Lifeline Comics, the co-creators of the Ever AfterVerse, and between them, they’ve raised a TON of money on Kickstarter for their books. They have a growing and very dedicated following… and for great reason. I’ve supported a number of their projects over the last couple of years, and I’ve yet to be disappointed.
I’ve read The Beast & Snow (a NSFW, queer re-imagining of Snow White and Belle, but as vampire/werewolf lovers), The Dancer (a thriller about a dancer who is also an assassin), and Haunting (about a teen who inadvertently raises the dead wherever he goes). I also ordered Aces & Aros, an asexual/aromantic comics anthology, that I’ve excited to read when it arrives.
But their great stories are not why I’m telling you about them. I’m telling you about them because even as Kat and Phil have grown their audience both online and IRL, they’ve ALWAYS taken the time to support other creators. Between them they’ve supported almost 1200 campaigns on Kickstarter.
Both Kat and Phil have individually supported The CloakRoom’s latest issue. They’ve both also supported past issues, or other projects that I’ve launched on Kickstarter. I don’t know them. We have some shared connections through comics, and I believe Kat went to high school with a cousin of mine… but we’ve never spoken or directly interacted. And yet, they’ve supported my work. So this is me returning the favor, and asking you, my subscribers, to check out one of their projects.
Lifeline Comics has two projects live on Kickstarter right now. Both look like a lot of fun. I’ve backed both:
