The latest vaudeville show being performed by President Orange is his “Communist Rant Song,” the calliope music blaring as he dances across the stage and screams “commie, commie, commie!” to his MAGA crowd while he sprays them with toxic water from his Truth Social seltzer bottle. This clown act has some entertainment value, I suppose, but wearing a fright wig, smearing on orangeface, and trying to frighten people with an off-key song about how social democrats will impose a communist government on the United States is truly pathetic.
Labeling as “communist” every person who opposes or contradicts this Orange regime is beyond bizarre. This is not 1950, this is 2026. Orange will not sway a single voter to go MAGA in the Midterm Elections with his ridiculous Commie Rant Song. Every thinking voter – which of course excludes MAGA loyalist voters – is aware that the communist ship sailed and sank more than 30 years ago.
In the late 20th century, there were at various times 44 nations that were communist, communist-aligned, or Marxist. Currently, there are five. Five of the world’s 195 countries still have governments based on a communist constitution: Cuba, Laos, North Korea, Vietnam, and China. All five are loosening, twisting, and adapting their constitutions away from Marxist principles to survive. By 2050, the only truly communist country in existence will be North Korea, and that totalitarian dictatorship will depend on the ability of Kim Jong Un to deceive and intimidate the people of his nation.
A reality check on the propaganda claim that socialism will somehow lead to communism: No socialist country has ever transitioned into a communist country. Here is a quick summary of the governmental evolution of the five current communist nations.
CUBA, Cuba was a dictatorship before a military and political revolution overthrew the dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959. By 1965, Cuba had adopted a communist constitution.
LAOS. Laos was a monarchy until 1975 when the Pathet Lao, a political-military movement, deposed the monarchy in a civil war and established a communist government.
NORTH KOREA. Korea was a dynastic monarchy until occupied by Japan as a colony. After World War II it was partitioned into North Korea and South Korea by the Soviet Union and the United States. It was ruled by dictator Kim Il Sung 1945-48, became a communist country in 1949, and is now a hereditary dictatorship, for all purposes a monarchy.
VIETNAM. Vietnam, part of former French colony Indochina, was occupied by Japan during World War II and was recognized post-war as an independent country. It was partitioned in 1949 into North Vietnam and French-ruled South Vietnam. From 1945 to 1975, guerilla forces in South Vietnam supported by units of North Vietnam’s military expelled occupying armies of France and later the United States, unifying the country as a communist nation.
CHINA. China has a long and complicated history of governance over its 3,000-plus years of history, which would require a multi-volume study and analysis of its progression toward the Chinese Communist Party that has ruthlessly controlled China’s national government, economy, society and culture for the previous three-quarters of a century. An overly simplified summation is that in 1949, after many years of civil wars and colonial occupation by foreign nations, a communist-led revolutionary army under the leadership of Mao Zedong defeated a nationalist army led by Chiang Kai-Shek and seized control of mainland China.
Except for these five, all other communist governed nations have failed in the previous 50 years.
During the 20th century, communist governments were imposed upon several nations by foreign invaders, most by the Soviet Union in the years immediately before and after World War II. Those Soviet occupied countries include the European nations of Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, East Germany, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Yugoslavia, and the central Asian nations of Georgia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. All these countries became independent republics after the decline and fall of the Soviet Union.
African nations that were governed under a communist constitution late in the century included Angola, Benin (Dahomey), Congo, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Somalia. In addition to China and Vietnam, the east Asian nations that became communist were Cambodia and Mongolia. Middle East nations with communist-model regimes were Afghanistan and South Yemen.
To stretch the definition of communist-Marxist government, the island nation of Grenada is the only western hemisphere nation besides Cuba that was ever communist. Other nations (Chile, Nicaragua, and Venezuela) that chose a form of Marxist government have had their leaders overthrown or assassinated by United States’ overt, covert or proxy forces.
Of the total 44 nations that have been or are currently governed under a communist or Marxist constitution, some for several decades and many for a few short years, not a single one transitioned from a socialist government to a communist government. Almost all of these countries were historically ruled by governments that included monarchies, dictatorships, foreign colonial powers, regional warlords, plus a few that were ruled as fragmented sovereign republics. Many were occupied by a foreign country and forced to become communist, and others overthrew their former systems of repressive government and were enticed by the siren song of Marxism.
But none were socialist governments that developed into communist governments.
Currently, for the five nations still operating with a communist constitution, communism has proved to be a disastrous political, economic, and cultural form of governance. Five out of 44. That is an 11.5 percent success rate. A batting average of .114. Four of the five surviving communist nations are hedging their definitions of Marxism to remain viable economically and politically.
Let me repeat: This is not 1950, this is 2026. President Orange cannot scare us with the Commie Rant Song. It worked 75 years ago. It’s not a catchy tune now.
Long ago we learned there were many things about a communist regime we should fear. Authoritarianism. Dictatorships. Oligarchy. Corruption. Control of information. Nationalism. Militarism. Use of military forces on civilian populations. Voter suppression. One party rule. Racism. Imperial wars. Genocide. Monopolization of business and industry. Mass incarceration. Disregard of science. Nepotism. Distain for education. Elimination of courts and legal systems. Disinformation and misinformation.
Sadly, those things are the currency of this administration in the United States. President Orange does not have to put on his fright wig, paint his face, dance, and sing out “communism” for our edification. His daily stage show in his role as clown president is a blatant display of all the faults and horrors of communism,
A little song, a little dance, a little (toxic) seltzer down our pants.
