Spring is here, dear Watermelon.

The frost is gone, the sun is golden.

It’s time to leave your winter shelf.

Spring is here, dear Watermelon,

Awaken to your finer self.

The bees are humming nectar tunes,

Beneath the bright and leafy noons.

Spring is here, dear Watermelon,

Enjoy some honey with a spoon.

Birds are flying,

Dogs are barking,

The winter wind is finally dying.

Spring is here, dear Watermelon,

Will you go outside?

Pull the rope to feel the breeze,

And swing up high among the trees.

Spring is here, dear Watermelon,

So push your toes into the sky.

In “Watermelon Spring,” I leaned into a soft, painterly aesthetic to match the gentle transition from winter to spring. I wanted the colors to feel fresh but nostalgic, like a memory of a favorite playground. Watermelon’s expression is the heart of the piece; it’s a reminder that no matter the season, physically or emotionally, there is always room to bloom a little early.
