Here’s a quick update to let you know I received my DumbDroid phone yesterday. Without much planning, I simply transferred my SIM card to the new device. The transition was pretty seamless, this little gadget has already replaced my iPhone for all my primary needs!
I’ve installed a bus app, banking app (btw holding a little bit back on those, since after all this is a modified chinese phone …), Vipps, Wordle, a podcast app, Spotify (it plays to my AirPods!), an accounting app, a radio app … that should cover the basics for now. My goal is to keep the number of apps low, to keep the phone slightly uninteresting. Anyway the small screen and tedious typing process naturally limit its use.
I’ll write more about my experiences with this later. It’s only been 24 hours so far, but I can reveal that I already notice significant … life changes … (spoiler alert: doomscrolling is not even an option on this thing!) Now it’s time for the big test: a business trip to Oslo. I’m feeling slightly nervous and tempted to revert to my iPhone for the journey ... However, I must embrace this challenge! After all, the whole point of this project is to break free from the grasp of the smartphone, right?
