Dear Divergent Witches,
If you look at any astrology social media posts or new agey socials or witchy socials everyone is bemoaning eclipse season. First, everyone hates and feels sad about Mercury in retrograde–which I personally have made peace with but that’s a discussion for another time. People warn us or rejoice about portals with double numbers 8/8 or 11/11. And then we have eclipse season, which honestly as a child I feel like I remember like 2 eclipses ever for like my entire childhood. So what’s the deal?
Eclipse season as it is ominously called consists of a time when both the new moon and full moon have some sort of eclipse and they always happen in the same moon cycle. It happens about twice a year every year and no you can’t always see them. So this time around we have the new moon on August 12th and this is a solar eclipse. This solar eclipse is going to be under the sign of Leo (not a sidereal astrology girlie cool if you are). Then on August 27th we have a full moon and that’s going to be a lunar eclipse under the sign of Pisces. As you can see, they always come in pairs. They often happen near the nodes (and that’s just some mathy points where the moon travels but they affect us too).
I first became aware of the eclipse season in 2020. My Reiki Master is also an astrologer and she rarely mixes them. But we were chatting after my Reiki I and she asked about my birth chart and I shared that I was a Taurus sun (because at that time that’s all I really knew). And her eyebrows went into her hair line and she let me know that starting in the fall of 2021 the nodes and therefore the eclipses will be shifting into Taurus and this will be a time for me to really shed.
And I didn’t really know what that meant, until it happened. I ended up getting a WeMoons calendar and really tracking the moon and its effect on me. And I remember how intense those eclipses were. I felt them in my body, in my shadow work, in my emotions, my thoughts and in my Spirit.

And start paying attention to where the moon is and maybe the nodes and maybe the other planets when you’re ready. Then pay attention to eclipse season, learn where it’s taking place in the sky and how that might affect you according to where those signs are in your chart. For this time around find out where in your chart is Leo and where is Pisces and then delve into what that might mean.
Eclipses are all about big release. Shedding, shadows rising, seeing what no longer serves. Journaling I think is key to finding what we need to let go of.
Ask yourself During this eclipse season:
What energy is rising?
What needs to be released?
What negativity needs to be shed?
Who do I want to be after this release?
Where am I going?
What needs healing?
Where am I feeling this in my body?
What is my eclipse season story?
What are my lessons?
You might want to use your divination tools or just journal from your heart.
The eclipse season has already begun. You are feeling it somewhere in your mind, body, Spirit, relationships, career and so on. It’s time to really go within. A time to rest and hydrate. A time to listen.
Some astrologers will advise you to not do any magic on eclipses. Some don’t even like to let the eclipse light shine on their bodies. What I can tell you is that eclipses are not business as usual. A new moon eclipse is different than just a new moon. If you collect moon water, label it as eclipse energy. If you do rituals or works of magic, harness not just the moon phase but the eclipse energy too.
No matter where eclipse season hits your chart, it’s shadow work season. Allow the shadows to rise and give voice. Use stones like obsidian, black tourmaline and smoky quartz to help draw them forward. Drink soothing and calming teas like catnip or rose. And just make space for what the story is, help it unfold and integrate the lessons the best you can.
Blessings,
Jenny
