Jenn M. Choi · Rising From Within

Y’all. It’s feeling pretty intense out there these days.

I landed about a week ago back in my hometown of San Francisco for a visit and am deeply disturbed by the presence of ICE here. I grew up as a child of immigrants and am horrified by how people are being forcibly separated from their families. Not to mention, the precipice of what feels like WWIII.

Some days I doomscroll on social media and mutter to myself, “Holy shit, this is all too much.”

My heart pounds. I start to spiral. I even ruminate over strategic plans in case of an apocalypse. (Shout out to my complex childhood trauma, which made me incredibly equipped for times of chaos.)

But then somehow as my mind and body start to go into overdrive, I intuitively know I need to shift my energy. To reclaim my personal power and go into nature. To regulate my nervous system with the trees. To close my eyes amidst the flowers and remember that I have divine power within me.

When I stand in a warm pocket of sunshine in a park enveloped by trees, I am well again. It feels sacred. I am whole. I can’t be fucked with, even when the news makes it sound like the world is collapsing.

That’s the thing. We can come here when we need to. Even—and especially—in times of chaos. By here, I mean inside ourselves.

There’s a place inside us that connects us to a greater power. Something holy that unites us all.

I recently found an old poem that I wrote. It feels really important to share with you right now, in the present. May it be a gentle reminder of how much wisdom, beauty, and power you hold.

Bloom From Within

Bloom from within.

Listen to the voice, the whispers, the calls from deep inside.

Turn off the noise, the notifications, the hollow algorithm of external validation.

Follow your spirit, your guides, the Universe. For they will help you grow.

They are the soil, the water, the decomposed lives waiting to be reincarnated into your petals, your stamen, your leaves.

You are beautiful, my dear flower.

You hold the light of life within you.

Drown out the expectations and unnecessary burdens that others place on you.

My dear flower, it is not your responsibility to turn the world’s shit into rainbows.

It is your calling to channel the divine, the ancestral, the beauty of the earth, and emanate that radiance through your very being.

To bloom, you must be.

To be, you must be present.

To stay present, you must be aware.

To be aware, you must be awake.

To awaken yourself, allow yourself to see. Open your third eye.

So you can bloom from within.

Within, within, within.

You spread your love and fragrance around, around, around.

That’s all I wanted to share today. I have so much more to say, but I’ll hold those thoughts for now.

I hope you find some solace and comfort in my poem. May you remember all that you’re capable of. May you remember all that is within you.

With love,

Jenn
