The start of the new year always brings a pause. Not because everything suddenly feels new, but because it offers a moment to notice what is still here.
This morning looked like most mornings. A warm mug of coffee on the counter. The hum of the house slowly waking up. Emma asking for the same song to be played again so we could have a morning dance party in the kitchen. Nothing remarkable, and yet it felt like a quiet invitation.
I’m not entering this year with big resolutions or a list of ways I plan to improve myself. I’ve learned that the pressure to become someone “new” often pulls me away from who I already am.
Instead, I’m paying attention to what I’m carrying with me.
I’m carrying a deeper respect for my body and its rhythms. A knowing that rest isn’t something to earn, it’s something to honor.
I’m carrying the reminder that connection doesn’t have to be loud or constant to be meaningful. Sometimes it’s sitting at the table together. Sometimes it’s staying a few extra minutes longer than planned.
I’m carrying grief and gratitude side by side. Missing those who are no longer here while loving the people right in front of me more fiercely because of it.
I’m carrying a slower pace. One that allows me to notice the ordinary moments that used to slip by unnoticed. The ones that years from now may turn out to be the most important.
This year doesn’t feel like a clean slate. It feels like a continuation. A deepening. A gentle unfolding of what’s already been growing quietly beneath the surface.
And that feels like enough.
As this year begins, I am curious; what are you carrying forward? What feels worth holding onto as you step into this next session?
