For two decades, the National Indie Excellence Awards (NIEA) have served as a highly respected honor in independent publishing, celebrating exceptional books from self-published authors, small- to mid-sized presses, and university presses across all genres. I am, of course, thrilled to now be able to say that my debut memoir is a #1 new release, bestseller, and award-winner. It feels like I am my own personal EGOT (IYKYK).

Second: my audiobook will be dropping July 1 EXCLUSIVELY ON SPOTIFY 🎧

And I have some tea to spill about it, just for you, loyal Substack reader!

I would love to be able to say that this is all part of my masterful marketing plan … but what actually happened is that—as the inaugural Invisible Ink audiobook guinea pig—I learned that I had to upload the book to two separate platforms, and the Spotify platform is much more efficient and author-friendly than the platform that supplies the book to Audible and other services. So, while I have no idea when my book will be up on Audible, it will definitely be up on Spotify on July 1 and I am marketing it as a very purposeful exclusive drop because why not, right?!

So here’s an exclusive excerpt from a scene that was one of my favorite scenes to write, and definitely my favorite scene to read. This scene marks a turning point for me. It’s a moment where I felt pure joy for the first time in a very, very long time. And that little seedling of joy took root that day and started me on my way to creating lasting change and curating lasting joy in my life.
