First things first: Happy (belated) birthday to the nation of Israel! More on that later…
That said, Black lives never mattered. My biggest objection to the entire BLM movement had nothing to do with the cynicism of a movement that championed the destruction of Black neighborhoods by organized White anarchists and opportunistic Black looters at the behest of faux Maoist grifters and Democratic Party fundraisers. Nothing new to see there: What happened to those neighborhoods in the summer of 2020 was pretty much in keeping with how the Democratic Party has operated for the past two centuries: as irredeemably corrupt (and violent) plantation masters. No, my biggest objection to BLM was the utterly ridiculous and fantastical notion that Black lives somehow somewhere suddenly mattered at all. Then or now.
Of course, I compose this brief essay from my home in Del Boca Vista Phase 3, a senior community situated in sunny Palm Beach County on a patch of stolen Seminole land now festooned with contentious old Jews and Italians on pickleball courts. As with BLM and Black Americans, however, no one truly cares about displaced Native Americans beyond their utility as progressive foils at award shows no one watches, feckless DSA conventions with more pronouns than attendees, or—as always—Democratic Party fundraisers.
And, of course, what holds true for the Blacks and Native Americans now holds true for the Palestinians. The savage butchery of Israeli Jews on October 7th, 2023 at the behest of the duly elected leaders of Hamas was celebrated on October 8th not only by the Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and everywhere else, but the entire progressive left in every Western society as well. But the progressive left (including the current Democratic Party) doesn’t give a shit about the Palestinians, at least no more than it cares one whit about the fates of indigenous peoples, or American Blacks, or any other cause celeb in the entire woke agenda beyond their ability to funnel and launder billions of public dollars into progressive causes and Democratic Party campaigns. And while the wholesale slaughter of Jews on October 7th did nothing to liberate the Palestinian people (just compare the before and after photos of Gaza City), it did liberate the simmering Jew hatred justifiably long-suppressed in post-Holocaust Western nations.
Fortunately for all formerly latent Jew haters, antisemitism is quite fashionable once again, only now we call it anti-Zionism—the 21st-century version of the same old same old. The same Jew hatred that Thomas Sowell once described as a manifestation of envy is now celebrated everywhere at street level in just about every Western society by those on the progressive left whose only real historical beef is—apparently—with anything and anyone who actually succeeds.
Because success is the only real crime of the Jewish people and the Jewish state. Israel stands as the only example in history of a nation created by the return of an indigenous people to its ancestral homeland: ironically, the wet dream of every progressive on the planet. Truly something to celebrate if not for one disqualifying rub: only the Jews could do it—the selfsame Jews who succeeded enough to contribute disproportionately over the centuries to every society who ever hosted them long enough to eventually kick their asses to the curb.
Only now the Jews have somewhere safe to go. Someplace that actually wants them. Someplace where half the world’s Jewish population already lives between that particular river and that particular sea. Somewhere with a Jewish army, a Jewish air force, a Jewish Navy, and Jewish nuclear weapons.
Israel is a miracle only the Jews—thanks to Zionism—could pull off. And the Western world now hates us for it. Too bad for them. Too bad for them that the warrior-citizens of Israel are precisely how they all yearn to envision themselves: as heroic defenders of their families, communities, and homelands. Too bad for them that only the Chosen People chose to make it happen. Too bad for them that only the modern state of Israel survived to become what every nation truly aspires to be: a cosmic fuck you to the rest of the world.
For now, the rest of the world can wait. Happy Birthday, Israel! Yom Ha’Atzmaut indeed.
