As a practicing artist, exhibitions and commissions dot the year with various events. Currently, I am in three exhibitions: Handcrafted at the Imperial Arts Center in Rocky Mount, The Middle Path at The Blanc in NYC, and Woven Strangers at Arts Access. With ArtsAccess, I will be giving an artist talk this Saturday in their beautiful new gallery space at . 4/13 1:00pm. I will be going into depth about the body of work Woven Strangers. Located at 444 S. Blount Street, Suite 115B, Raleigh, NC 27609
But among these presentations of work made, work is continually being constructed in the studio - sometimes in step, sometimes out of step with what has come before.
Sometimes seasonal changes affect the colors, sometimes day to day affect the shapes, sometimes in response to spaces themes shift, and sometimes new narratives start itching to be told.
Since February, I have been at play in the studio shifting in the work a bit. Still leaning on ideas of the body and sketches in my notebooks I have been welding at Shopspace here in Raleigh. This time has been spent creating studier armatures/skeletons to support and carry the work. And with this introduction of new material, the work is shifting. New lovely problems to solve are arising. So if you were to look through my studio now, things are a foot. I have been playing, testing, and experimenting and thinking of new ways to show hard and soft, strong and fragile, interiors and exteriors, skins and skeletons.
And I haven’t quite figured it out yet, but I am learning. Learning through error, exploration, touch, and interest, always to excited to see what will reveal itself.
But simultaneously, I have two exhibitions on the horizon in May here in Raleigh <ehem> The Grid Project / @the.grid.project and one at ClearStory Arts in Chattanooga with annual Taking Up Space initiative.
And so the work and narrative continue.
