If Xavier Worthy and Cyrus Allen really do return to Chiefs practice later this week, maybe this will all be a distant memory by December. Or maybe this is the beginning of the storyline that will define the 2026 season.

That’s the part that stresses me out.

The current iteration of the Chiefs’ wide receiver room has always been dependent on one—or several—“ifs.” The biggest “if” comes with “if the top three receivers stay healthy, it can be a perfectly fine group.” Heck, the absolute ceiling of KC’s top-three is higher than “perfectly fine.”

If Rashee Rice is fully healthy and available and motivated for a contract year, he could be a true WR1! If Worthy is fully healthy and benefits from coaching from Chad O’Shea, he could be a high-end No. 2 with deadly deep speed. If Tyquan Thornton maintains his early-2025 success at a similar rate throughout a full ‘26 as the team’s WR3, that trio could be dangerous! If Jalen Royals can do some of the dirty-work jobs while Allen gets up to speed…

It’s an exciting possibility. If everything goes right.

I would be, for lack of a better term, cataclysmically bummed if Worthy was forced to play another season while managing a nagging shoulder injury. Allen is now missing precious training camp reps, though hopefully not for long. Rice does not look like he has regained his explosiveness yet. Royals’ early reports have not been positive.

The Chiefs’ wide receiver bets haven’t lost yet; we’ve seen one padded practice. It’s really, really early. But if those ifs don’t turn into whens by the time the season arrives, lost wins could be the price. (See what I did there? Wordplay can be a coping mechanism.)

…Also, you’ll just have to listen to today’s episode, but I’m really not entirely sure what to make of the Jaylon Moore/Kahlil Benson right tackle situation. Let’s give it another few days.

Plus, we also talked about The Odyssey at the end of the show, which Tucker D. Franklin has now seen for a second time. Spoiler alert: good movie.
