Spoiler Alert! I survived my adventure!

Mile 0, Lees Ferry, preparing to put in.

I am home, safe and sound, slightly battered, bruised, and somewhat scuffed up, but basically unscathed. I am still on a high, still glowing (from within, not just from my fabulous inadvertent tan!) after this incredible and most likely once-in-a-lifetime journey through the heart of The Grand Canyon.

Over the coming days, I will share notes from my daily journal, photos, a little history, some fun folklore, and a bit about the canyon itself. I was traveling with a National Geographic photographer, a geologist, and a boatman who was on his 150th run down the river. My head is still spinning!

For now, here is a taste of the scenery, with more to come soon. Thanks for all the well-wishes and your interest in hearing about the trip. It was everything I had hoped for, and more! My hands are still healing from the harsh climate—so beat up, fingertips and all, that my computer cannot recognize my thumbprint!

We had 3 rowboats and 1 motorboat (far right) that carried our supplies.
Navajo Bridge, Mile 4.5. One historic and one new, one of only seven land crossings of the Colorado River for 750 miles.
The view from my first campsite, Mile 11. I brought two books, but had so little time to read. I was too busy packing and repacking, unable to find what I was looking for until I took every last item out of my packs.
You can’t see the cuts in this photo, or the swelling, or the red rash on the top of my hand. Gloves didn’t help, and no amount of salve was enough.

Thank you, as always, for being here. Remember. . .

Life is short. Read fast.

From one lover of the written word to another,

With love,

Jayne
