Don’t let the follower counts on your favorite comics’ page fool you. That goes both ways. There are comics who can move tickets in major towns because they have an email list (highly recommend this), a big network and smart advertising. Then there are people with follower counts in the 300k-400k range that are struggling to fill a club weekend. I cannot move tickets to save my life at the moment. Something something, instagram and tiktok algorithim. Having multiple viral sketches and stand-up clips to my name, I can say one thing for sure. This is a marathon, not a sprint. It is about consistency over quality. I may have a few months with no quality uploads but it is all worth it knowing I am building my library brick by brick. I am so numb to a video getting a million views now because I am lucky to get one email sign up at the end of it all. This is the real work. I need to beat the noise. I need to post quality stand-up on the regular or I will get eaten by the person that is doing so.
Festivals, feature spots and the rest are nice, but I will be stuck in this loop until I find a way to be profitable.
