Yesterday I wrote a happy post about my life, focusing on the pending re-release of Plague Birds and being a finalist for both the Hugo and Ignyte Awards. Unfortunately, I now need to discuss the bad stuff that has been going on recently: For the last year and a half, I have been harassed by Emily Bell, also known as E.D.E. Bell, of Atthis Arts.

There’s good and bad stuff going on in my life right now.

This weekend I attended the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) Nebula Conference, where the winners of this year’s Nebula Awards were announced in a packed Saturday-night ceremony.

Last September I did a deep dive into the book club scams targeting writers, with scammers using generative AI systems to not only target authors with compellingly detailed emails about their books but also using AI to create fake websites and Discord communities.

The science fiction and fantasy genres have long had a “pay it forward” attitude, with genre fans and established writers frequently supporting newer writers and helping them move forward with their careers.

Must Read Magazines – the publisher of Analog Science Fiction and Fact, Asimov’s Science Fiction, and Fantasy and Science Fiction – announced on April 22 that they are switching to a new printing company.

The deadline to submit a claim form for the $1.5 billion Anthropic AI settlement recently passed.

It’s weird to wait until March to talk about my Hugo Award eligibility, but with all the current deadlines I’m under, that’s how my 2026 is going.
