Dr. Herbert Goes to Washington

Greetings from Cle Elum, Washington, which is definitely not where I live and absolutely nowhere near that bed I was fantasizing about last week.

I'm stationed now on the Three Queens Fire, which is near the Snoqualmie Pass area in central Washington and home to some of the most beautiful countryside you'll ever see.

I hadn't planned on coming back out so soon. My back is still sore from three weeks at the Willow Fire and my dog, cat, and girlfriend only barely recognized me when I returned. But I need the money and until we get a few more paid subscriptions here, I'm just gonna have to hurt a little bit. Speaking of which-

That said, one of the best things about this job is seeing the country and learning more about it, its people, and its history. And folks, I LOVE Washington. I've always wanted to live out here and I'm more than willing to share that I drove to the fire assignment with my jaw agape.

I've got a bunch of stuff I want to share from this region, especially its Indigenous history, but that will come in later posts. For now, enjoy these views of the Yakima River, which runs alongside our base camp.
