Hello!
I am finally back and also would like to introduce you to our newest family member:
Our second daughter Ophelia was born on 4 January, and we couldn’t be happier. She is such a cute little snuggle bug.
My pregnancy intuition was off by the way. She was not born earlier at all, but waited exactly until we were 40 weeks along. At least the pregnancy discomfort feels long in the past, and I am soaking up all the newborn time. Here is my latest blog post where I tell you a bit more about our last few weeks: Say Hello to Ophelia!
This was Rich’s last week of paternity leave. Our biggest change though was that Josephine, who turned two last weekend, started at a new daycare. We decided already months ago to switch to a German daycare, which only takes kids from age 2 on. As all daycare in Manhattan is exorbitantly expensive, we figured that we might as well choose the German daycare so that we raise her bilingually as successfully as possible. So far, Josephine has enjoyed every single day there. Yes, even the first one on Monday. So much for a possible slow transition … she liked it so much that she stayed the full day.
After two years, we finally saw proper snow in the City on Tuesday. For the few hours that it lasted, the snowstorm was really pretty. Josephine even built her first snowman together with the other daycare kids.
We are not big on Valentine’s Day, but, as we were both at home, Rich and I had a little home date. We got takeout lunch and watched the latest “Aquaman”.
This morning, we got lucky with a bit more snow. We used the opportunity and went all together to the playground to play in and with the snow.
Mostly this week though, we tried to do little, but important tasks before Rich returns to work, like paying bills (both of us), repairing our automatic coffee maker (me), dealing with an architect to finally renovate our loft area (Rich), replacing parts of our robot vacuum (me), etc.
I started “Snowed In on Valentine’s Day” a few days ago. It is a cute romcom, very predictable, and fun: Hazel decides to change her life and spend more time at home. When somebody moves into the house next to her, she is excited - until she finds out that the person is Peter, a man she met at a wedding and immediately disliked. Then a blizzard hits her town …
The other book I just finished is “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck”. I know that this non-fiction book is a few years old, but I wanted to read it forever. I enjoyed it as a reminder to not take everything and mostly myself too seriously. Life is short.
As mentioned above, Rich and I watched “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” this week. We actually liked it much more than expected. That was because they developed the characters more than just putting a focus on fights or traveling through ten different Marvel worlds. They also went back to characters from the previous movies (instead of introducing more and more Marvel heroes and foes) which we highly enjoyed.
I only wanted to order dresses for our girls for when we attend a wedding in April, but several other pieces landed in my shopping cart:

for Josephine: this zip up hoodie with construction vehicles, this lion print sweatshirt, and this mesh dress with wings
