The Fan Jean.

This isn’t for everybody, I am aware. In fact, I urge you to please NOT order it unless you know that you are definitely the person who wants this look. It has been one of the love it or hate it styles. I equally hear people tell me they don’t get it at all and others that they love it. I will tell you, from my perspective. I am the latter. It’s just a more forward shape that is for the person who doesn’t really care if it looks good, it’s more if it feels right.. that’s a weird thing to say, but it’s true.

The model is wearing a 24 and is a 24. I am a 29 and wear a 29 (and a 30), because I can roll even messier than this and still love it.

Leila is wearing the weekend shirt in this very cool ivory stripe. And she’s wearing the San Diego Thong and the undershirt rib.

Why would I make a jean that doesn’t look good on everyone.

Well - that’s not really the case- it’s the beauty in the eyes of the beholder kind of thing. It’s not exactly what I am saying. I think it looks incredibly chic. It’s more of a personal matter where the truth is - do you align? I am aligned. I made it for me. It’s very specific. It’s directional. I think it looks exactly right.

How do you know if you will like it.

You like pants with slouch, like men’s jeans. You like when the rise hangs down past your crotch. You don’t mind that messiness, you prefer it.

You will admire the cut of the leg as something intentional, the subtle curve at the hip (which is inherently adding volume where sometimes people don’t want to add volume) - it’s actually the point.

You won’t care if it isn’t flattering. It isn’t about flattering. It’s about swag and the energetics of ease.. the not caring inherently cool kind of cut.

You will already know.

Leila is wearing the essential shirt in this golden stripe. And she’s wearing the San Diego Thong and the undershirt rib.

How to know if you won’t like it.

If a longer crotch bothers you. Like slouchy sitting below the body.

If you are 5’0-5’2 I think it will be a lot of fabric and you will have to hem it a good amount. You likely hem everything, but right off the bat, you might not see the drape as easily. You also need to hem it long.. so that it puddles. If you are 5’5 + it’s the sweet spot.. no hemming. The model is 5’10”.

If you love the Kenickie, you likely love a more classic flattering cut. That’s your look. This is the opposite. This is not classic, or flattering or stretch. It’s two different parts of me. This is the messy cool part. The Kenickie is the casual polished part. Both can be true. But one doesn’t mean you are the other. Does that make sense. I am both. Classic polished pulled together, and also can swing messy sloppy sexy slouchy cool.

You know if you know. If you know you will like it, you likely will.

Below:

Same jean, different model. Lizzie below is more of a size 2, a little more athletic and with more curve. She’s a 25 wearing a 25. She’s 5’8, it’s just touching her heel. Showing it different ways for perspective.

The Details

The rise is long, the leg is full with a swoop drape ease .. It’s not a straight forward barrel, it’s more fanned, the arc is higher on the thigh, more like a drapy 80’s Chico, more like a slouchy levi meets 80s chico. No one wants it. Except I did and do…. Not typical denim wearers. If you love mens jeans too big (I raise my hand - likely a smaller group of people) - you might love it too.

I think it looks best when it’s slightly big and oversized. I’m a 29 and wear the 29 and strangely prefer the 30. I can also wear a 28 and it does something more fitted on my waist which is fun, but more effort, more barrel polished, more trend. I don’t think it makes me look sexy, I think it’s the kind of jean my husband hates, but it does make me feel chic. I wear it for me, not for anyone else. I often wear it with a trap heel and a woven shirt. I also wear with a thong. It makes me feel like myself.. something in the can’t quite care kind of cut.

Another model, Marije. She’s 5’10 and wearing a 25, she’s a 25.

Likely, I’ve confused you. Don’t buy the jean, unless you know.. then I highly suggest it.
