I design moments for me

The things that bring me the most joy, from a design perspective, are those moments I curate that are personal. The truth is I really make almost everything for me. Me first. If I don’t like it, I tend to let it go before it makes it to the collection. I have to LOVE it to write my name in it, I have to LOVE it all to work so hard. I try to curate those moments of LOVE.

But there is something else. Beyond that, beyond that I like it, I love to create moments of deep satisfaction, and personal joy. Here is the example that popped up just now.

I love this beautiful moment. This lining in combination with the color of the bag. It’s something you will encounter everyday if you own the bag. Every time I do, open my bag, I see this. I feel it, I created this moment so that I could live it everyday. LOVE.

I loved this lining. When I saw it hanging on the rack at a Japanese fabric mill’s showroom, I grabbed it, before there was a bag line. When it was just a stripe. I thought, if I ever make a bag, maybe I will use this lining. And then I let it sit on my desk for months, I would just make clusters of skin and stripe, of brass hardware and stripe. Of stones and stripes. And I would admire it. I liked it on my desk, and I like it in my bag. It felt like everything I LOVED about vintage designer bags. And when I do this, it’s for me. For me to love. It’s private, you know. A private little moment I get to have, for myself, all day long.

You can have it too.

When I was doing client work in interior design , I would explain it to clients too. They would love a wallpaper, but think it was too much, too loud, too big of a statement and they always had a safe back up, one they wouldn’t tire of. I always told them, lets do the one where the LOVE is. Where the gravity is. Where you will see it everyday, clock that love and keep going. You won’t get tired of loving it, you will get tired of the tired one. It’s already boring. Pick the love. And they usually did.

It’s the same here.

We drop the Ledger bag tomorrow ( It’s also already up on the site, because IYKYK that I launch the product before I go to sleep at night so it’s there when you wake up in NYC) She’s so good. I’m so excited she is finally here. I LOVE her. And I mean that.
