🔄 Using CeX as Blockbuster

Over the last year or so, I’ve been getting off subscription services. The latest being Amazon Prime. When I say getting off subscription services , I mean that I don’t permanently pay for them. But I might still pay for them one month at a time, as and when I use them. I’ve done specific post about this: 📺 Don’t Subscribe; Buy a Pass One of the ways I avoid paying for a streaming service for a…

🇮🇹 Photos from Italy

One consequence of taking photos on film, is that I’ll usually come back from a holiday with a partially finished roll. That’s exactly what happened when I came back from our trip to Italy in May. I finally got through that roll, and received the last of my scans at the end of June! I’ve written before about how I travel with my camera – especially through street photography. Anyway, long overdue,…

📺 TV Shows I’ve Started, But Haven’t Finished

A few years ago I decided I’d only watch TV shows that were finished . I just got sick of waiting year(s) between series. I’m still catching up on some shows I was already midway through: The Boys Good Omens Severance Some of the shows I’d started watching got cancelled: Westworld Halo I haven’t watched the final season of either. Then there’s Ted Lasso , that ended – then started again! Or shows…

📒 The Americans by Robert Frank: The Perfect Photobook for the USA’s 250th Birthday

I bought The Americans by Robert Frank earlier this week, as part of finally getting some photobooks I’ve had my eyes on for a while. According to the back cover The Americans is the most influential photobook of all time , containing photos taken by Frank as he traveled post-war America. I decided to save going through the book until today – the USA’s 250th birthday. As a Brit, I’ve only been to…

🏃 parkrun Is Awesome

I’ve stated doing parkrun a bit more regularly. I did my first one in Harrogate at the start of 2019, and by the start of August 2025 (6 years later) I’d done 8. I’ve now completed 14 in the last 10 months, taking my total to 22. For those that don’t know, here’s what parkrun is (from their website ): parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. parkrun…

⚽️ Bear Blog 2026 FIFA World Cup Fantasy League

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup fast approaching, I thought I’d quickly set up a fantasy league for any Bear Bloggers who want to join in. For those who don’t know, a football (soccer) fantasy league is free and just for fun (no money/gambling involved whatsoever). You pick your team within the given budget, and the players score you points for things like scoring goals, not conceding goals, etc. You…

📸 An Introduction to Martin Parr

I want to share one of my favourite artists: Martin Parr. An English photographer who sadly passed away at the end of last year. I first came across Martin Parr’s work when I was getting into street photography and started reading books on it. This is the first photo of his I remember seeing (from his series Benidorm , a Spanish city popular with British tourists): © Martin Parr Martin Parr is…

🧳 Tourism and Photography

We just got back from an eleven night holiday to Italy. We bounced around a bit, staying in Bologna, Riva del Garda, Verona and Venice. My favourite thing to do in each place? Walk around with my camera. For this trip I decided to take one camera (Leica MP) and one lens (35mm F1.5), and shoot one type of film (Portra 400) – apart from one roll of Ultramax. Having a camera at the ready puts me in a…
