When products in the world of menswear are hyped up—whether this force is derived by word of mouth, internet buzz, or a celebrity-endorsement—it’s incredibly easy lose sight of what actually makes something good. Take it from me—someone who has been burned by this kind of groupthink in the past, and invested in products that I was told would at the very least look great and potentially fix all of the problems I’ve ever had in life. Unfortunately the promises of hyped up attire almost never materialize, even when things are praised for deserving reasons. If I’m being honest, more often than not, buying something just because everyone seems to be saying in unison they rock leads to ill-advised purchases that never quite feel, or wear, as good as you’d hoped.

Furthermore, riding high on the trend wave—whether we’re talking about a silhouette or specific product—can also cause you to spend so much time thinking about what products are buzz-worthy that you overlook worthwhile pieces out there that for one reason or another don’t get enough attention.
